Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsSomeone mentioned in another thread a while back that the 'pony ears' hand signal originally was supposed to represent the legs of a rearing horse. I have to admit that makes a lot more sense than ears.
Anyone have any insight as to whether this is true or not? If so, how/when did it change? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsFor this week can we let this go and enjoy the win.

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsWhatever it's origin, it must be eliminated, as a symbol of the losing culture of SMU football.
Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang Legs
Not trying to start an argument about Peruna vs. former mustangs that someone snatched from the wild and mutilated and broke. I'm trying to find out the true history of our shared hand signal. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang Legs
It must be a relatively recent "tradition" or I have been out of it for decades. ![]() ![]() ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsIt's a peace sign for godsake.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsI much prefer to say it's a symbol of a pony/horse/mustang rearing up or bucking than just waving ears.....it's more manly and may get us a win or two just by thinking that......Like the old Lone Ranger shows as he rears up to 'High ho Silver away'

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsThats good with the Ferrari, but I do like the new chant ..HOOF EM! ....way better than Pony up!
Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang Legs"Hoof 'em!" has been around since the late 90's, at least... just never seemed to catch on...

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsI'll admit, I cannot find an authoritative source, but I never though it was pony ears, nor rearing legs.
Nor was it V for victory. It was V for "Varsity." Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.
Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang Legs
Perhaps this is the origin. What era are you from? 60s? 70s? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsHeh. Actually, I graduated in 1991. But I'm a second generation Mustang, so you could ALMOST date me from the very early 70's, when I began following the team.

Re: Pony Ears vs Rearing Mustang LegsNow that makes more sense, but still like the rearing/bucking thought....
