This is not the SMU I used to know!

Postby George S. Patton » Fri Oct 16, 2009 9:04 am

We have this kind of leadership? Well, I guess when a big dollar player shows up on your campus and pretty much SABOTAGES our tradition on this campus, it pretty much means they have no regard for what the university stands for.

I guess all we have to do is either stick our hand out or lift our skirt.

Thanks, Dr. Turner and Mr. Orsini for compromising SMU's integrity.

And again, the football program's improvement and our tradition have nothing to do with each other.

Do any administrators on this campus value anything anymore?

When did they ever?

Weren't most people who cared about SMU's history and traditions swept out with the board of governers?

They probably value putting a winning product on the field and making enough money to support the football program.

The more I think about it, the less I like this new horse thing, but they are doing everything they can to get this ship going in the right direction - some we agree with, some we don't. Speaking out against the things we don't like is good and important, but to bash those in charge as if they don't care or are deliberately trying to move in a negative direction is pure idiocy.

Maybe we should bring back paying players and buying cars for recruits. Is that the SMU you used to know? Accept that there are going to be some changes and get over it. Do that or find another team to root for.

How do you know that they don't care? I get that they want to move the football program and athletics in the right direction, but at the expense of a tradition that goes back to the 1930s?

Would you call that a really sound decision? These quotes from the Botox queen is from somebody who doesn't give a damn about our university and will only use this school to advance her political cause.

So disappointing.

Go Gophers! I wouldn't have turned my back on SMU. It would be SMU turning its back on me.

I understand that you don't care about this horse issue, but there are a lot of people who do. But then I get the fact that you're just a suckup to anyone in athletics because you want your dollars to buy friendship in that department. I don't work that way.

I'd rather be principled than popular. That's something you better look at.

P.S. -- My freshmen and sophomore years were 1987-88 when we didn't field a team, so drop the bogus paying for players argument. It goes well beyond that, my boy.

How do we know they care about SMU? You are seriously asking that question? Take one second and think about that. You really think Orsini, Jones, Turner, etc. don't care about SMU. I want you to really say that again so that I can officially put you on ignore.

It would appear that what they value and what I value regarding this university are two different things.

Did you really just say compromise SMU's integrity?? I am a loyal SMU fan, but c'mon, integrity?? Didn't we lose a bit of that when we got caught cheating?? Aren't we the only school to get the DP?

I am sure there were traditionalists at Hawaii that were against changing the name from Rainbow Warriors to Warriors. Think about that change.

Yeah, I'm sure there were. But their voices maybe weren't as loud as ours are. And, Peruna has been around as the SMU mascot longer than Hawaii has been a state in the union. Thank about that.
