I want to take this opportunity to thankan instrumental person in June Jones' departure from Hawaii for SMU.
Thanks Herman. ![]()
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankYeah he and his administration definitely dropped the ball on the June Jones situation. From the inability to adequately upgrade facilities to bonuses to keep around good assistants all the way to getting a deal done for June, Herman Frazier failed.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankDo you want an example of how incompetent Herman Frazier was?
JJ knew that the horrible budget situation at Hawaii ($50k recruiting budget, no recruiting coordinator or director of football operations, etc.) was going to limit the future of the football program, so JJ offered to take a *pay cut* from his $800k salary. JJ's only condition was that his pay be used to support the football program. Frazier turned JJ down! You know that things are bad when a *winning* football coach offers to cut his salary and the AD rejects it. The football program had one video camera to tape practices with and that was a video camera that JJ won in a golf tournament! Now, Hawaii is 2-6 and is playing Utah State at home this week as part of Homecoming...and Hawaii is an underdog.
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thank
Ah yes, but they managed to beat Wazzu!!!!
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thank
That was the highlight of the season for Hawaii. It should be pointed out that Hawaii had a senior QB starting behind an all-senior OL, with mostly seniors at DL and LB. Those players had already learned how to win...SMU's young players are just learning how to do that this season.

and some fools on this board think it's all just a big coincidence! ![]() C-ya @ Milos!

Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankThe same chicken sh*t who said we would rue the day we passed on Todd Dodge.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankour hiring of June Jones may ultimately go down as one of the most influential in school history

Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankThe hiring of June Jones will be looked upon as what ultimately saved SMU football. I'm telling you I can't wait to see how these next few years will play out.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankThen we need to thank Eric Dickerson and Coach Doh.
Dickerson is the one that key, knowing JJ's pain and helping Doh come up with the phone contact. Thank you classmate Eric D. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankYes, ED knew if we got serious about football, finally, that the support would show up.

Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankThanks Herman!!!
Re: I want to take this opportunity to thankThe Truth is that Phil Bennett, Mike Cavan maybe even Tom Rossley would have taken SMU to bowls in either the WAC or CUSA under current bowl contracts if they were allowed to recruit guys like Marquis Frazier, Shawnbray McNeil, Sterling Moore, Rock Dennis, and get in D1A Transfers like Kennemer and allowed minimum NCAA qualifiers in. So enjoy your June Jones' saviour complex but he couldn't do it without those players and in fact wouldn't have taken the job. June Jones has never taken a team to a bowl under the restrictions former SMU coaches dealt with. Those players have been difference makers in several games. Fact is no body can prove otherwise because June Jones has not and will never have to coach under the restrictions former SMU Coaches did. Replace McNeil with Line, Frazier with Grennier, Moore with Keith Robinson, Kennemer with Rodgers and Dennis with Tyler Jones and then tell me which bowl SMU would be going to. If June Jones hadn't taken the job there are any number of Coaches that could have turned the program around as long as they are able to recruit under minimum NCAA eligibility standards. If UTEP, Rice, Tulane and Tulsa can go to multiple bowls then I think SMU under mimimum NCAA recruiting standards could easily as well.
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
