Liberty Bowl v. Hawaii Bowl - The Television View

Postby Statler » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:47 am

In the hope of having a thoughtful and intellectual debate (like that has ever happened on this forum  ) I offer the following facts:

http://warriorquotes.wordpress.com/2008/12/30/the-hawaii-bowl-had-record-tv-ratings/

Note this game was placed on Dec. 23rd between Hawaii and Notre Dame (they always have a large share).

The Liberty Bowl's rating was:

http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/tvratings

Note: Liberty Bowl still had higher attendance.

Our game would be more like:

http://www.ncaafootball.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=34&url_article_id=11994&change_well_id=2

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl: East Carolina 41, Boise State 38, ESPN: (30,467) & [1,415,395]

AutoZone Liberty Bowl: Mississippi State 10, UCF 3, ESPN: (63,816) & [3,986,674]

Note: the game was between ECU and Boise VS the Liberty Bowl with Miss State & UCF.

Also, the Hawaii Bow is on Christmas Eve when folks will be with family, church, etc. while the Liberty Bowl is on Saturday 1/2 after the Cotton Bowl game.

No forget you. ...first you have to deduct expenses from the take. It stands to reason, the payout for the Hawaii bowl will not cover the expenses for the the entire entourage while the LIberty Bowl would, thus SMU would not be debt.

It has already been posted that all conf. USA teams split the bowl payouts equally...

And yet the league splits all bowl revenue even between bowl teams. See link with quote from CUSa operations.

Of course, Hawaii Bowl had a higher rating. Fewer people wathcing TV, but larger percentage watching the Hawaii bowl.

Also, Liberty Bowl's numbers have changed fundamentally. In 2008, they loved to a post-New Year's Day bowl, as opposed to a pre-new year's day bowl. They went from a from being the only bowl on that day in one year to one of three to now, one of five.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Also since the league pays all approved expenses the distance has no effect either, Chief.

Well Custer it all depends on this sentence:

Alfred White, C-USA's associate commissioner for football operations, explained that from that pot, each C-USA bowl team is reimbursed for "approved expenses."

If the game is played Christmas eve night, don't people have things to do? I will try to watch on the east coast when I am home for Christmas, but I have family obligations to attend to. As other people probably do. Get the f-ing Liberty Bowl.

some of you are failing to understand certain key aspects...

1 its not going to be like the east carolina vs boise st. game, why? because neither of those teams have June Jones... who just happened to be the HC for the team that usually plays in that bowl game... JJ has a lot of followers in the islands thus will draw a lot of attention around the state and nation wide...

Now compare being one of 5 bowl games played vs being the ONLY bowl game of the day... the choice should be quite easy..

and christmas is overrated, not EVERYONE spends christmas drinking eggnog and singing christmas carols, while make believing uncle buck is santa claus... i guarantee you the players would rather go to Hawaii for their bowl game than to the liberty bowl... the only people who are whining are the fans, but dont ya know its not about the fans its about the boys... 15-20k Hawaii fans made it to Neworleans for the sugar bow, so i dont see why 5-10k SMU fans cant make it to hawaii... I cant believe after 25 years of no bowl games some of ya have the nerve to complain where the bowl game is being held... fork over the cash and make the trip, keep and open mind and just lay out on the beach and soak up the sunshine in december...
