Ford Stadium Reviews from High School Fans

Postby Stallion » Wed Dec 16, 2009 12:08 pm

On Smoaky.com -based largely on reviews from the 3A Championship between Abilene Wylie and Gilmer last week-some of the same reactions SMU Fans have but some of the reviews seem more like Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee and Barney's first trip to the Big City. They shouldn't have much problem this week for the 2A Championship between Graham and Carthage since the campus will empty out. The one I'm always amazed about is the poster who never knew SMU existed there even though she was Methodist and drove by it on Central often-I hear this all the time. Maybe expanding toward Central will have some small benefit

"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

Parking issues: Hello? It's a college campus, people. You want to play in a nice college stadium, you're never going to have a lot of good, close-in parking. You want good parking, play in a high school stadium.

Jerry Jones never used the video screens at Texas Stadium in all the years of high school playoff games there. Why? Because it takes a team of people to run the video board, including cameramen, operators, etc. Do you really think a 3A game is worth the additional hire of a video board crew? Sheesh...

And the woman who never knew where SMU was...this is something SMU's administration has always had a blind spot about. SMU is not relevant in Dallas, and has very little profile. This must change. Hosting more high school games can do a lot to change that. So can a better marketing effort. But little things can be a great boost as well. For instance, until Yale was switched to SMU Boulevard, there was never a sign on Central Expwy. pointing out that SMU was right there. No signs saying "SMU next three exits" or "Ford Stadium/Moody Coliseum next exit." Ridiculous. Maybe that will change with the Bush Library.

Concessions were a b***h. Cry me a river. Concessions are bad everywhere.

Look, Texas Stadium was a dump, too. Parking was better, but try figuring out which was the right side to park on - you talk about a walk to the other side. Concessions were lousy, no video screen. You could understand the announcer most of the time. I think mostly people were ticked that they didn't get to play at Texas Stadium, and JerryWorld is too costly for most schools to book.

Their kids got to play a 3A state championship game in a collegiate environment and all they can do is gripe. SMU will make some improvements - namely, the sound system - but most of the issues have to do with unfamiliarity with the stadium and surroundings. Hopefully SMU will host more high school games and people will know what to expect - not to mention more people will realize where the heck SMU is.

SMU really should promote the Dart Rail service to Mockingbird station. Many in the Gilmer crowd were dressed for a hayride and just couldn't figure out where to park their danged horseless carriages.

I like the comments about how SMU should try to do some recruiting in the Dallas area.

Don't you remember, they played the West Canaan Coyotes in the final game of the season for the district title. Mox kicked Coach Kilmer out of the locker room at halftime and they won the game on the play where Billy Bob ran down the field and acted like he was lost.

Watch what you say about Gilmer - or any other small town. Gilmer's QB is a stud by the name of Darian "Stump" Godfrey. You'd love to see him in an SMU uniform. And probably some of his teammates, too. Gilmer has some athletes.
