I've got an idea:
SMU joins the new Big (12/14/16) then gets Beebe fired. :D

"The Des Moines Register suggests the remaining Big 12 schools -- Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Baylor and possibly Missouri -- band together to rebuild the Big 12. The new conference would include Cincinnati, Louisville, TCU, UTEP, SMU, Houston, Rice and Memphis (if Missouri bolts). Could this happen? Or would it become feast or famine? "

I'd like that conference, or some variation of it. But what's the upside for Cincinnati & Louisville? The Big East sucks for football, I know, but basketball is a different story.

Not sure that I would say that Cinci sucks at football. Pretty good team. And Louisville is going to surprise with Charlie Strong as head coach.

I didn't say Cincy or Louisville football sucked, I said the Big East sucked. Just like the ACC sucks at football. Doesn't mean there aren't a couple teams each year that are decent, but ultimately neither of those conferences deserves to be an AQ in football given their recent track record.

If the Big East and Big X (4-8-10-12) are vulnerable, then one could hope for a formation of Cinn, Louisville, Pitt, West Virginia, USF, KSU, MU, KU, ISU, UH, ECU and SMU conference. This covers a significant market area with traditional powerhouses. Beebe may or may not keep his job.

It is hard for me to imagine Pitt and WVU being left out of alignment if the Big East implodes.

And would sucha conference qualify as an AQ conference?

Yes it would be an AQ conference. Pitt, Louisville, WVU, Mizzou, etc... all would never be a part of that w/o the AQ.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I really hope the B12 reforms and includes us, sure it won't be an AQ conference, but it will be better than we have now and who knows how things may change in the future.

We really belong in the same conference as Baylor, it would be a good thing and if TCU comes back to the fold, we could be happy for a long time. Could even probably work a deal with the Cotton Bowl to be our champion bowl again.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

that's an [deleted] kicking conference up and down. Football and basketball. Man, how nice would that be.

Why does anyone want Rice in a Conference? I'd rather have Tulsa, its history shows they are more willing to commit to competing.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

I personally would go to bat for Rice, they had one blip of success a couple of years ago and they could turn it around. Tulsa has never really done anything in football, they have no history, they got a small stadium, they are in a small town in Oklahoma, sure they put together a couple of years where they could compete in C-USA, but they really bring nothing. I would love both Rice and Tulsa, but I think we should stick up for our Owl buddies whenever possible. Lots of history with those guys.

Ditch the dead weight. I have zero desire to be linked athletically with that school. They suck, have sucked, and will continue to suck. They're students are weird, co-ed talent is sub par, and their faculty hates the athletic programs. Get us as far away from Rice as is possible.
