What can it be? Why is Turner allowing this to happen? Kevin Sherrington says he cant see this happening any place else...so whats up? Turner must see that donations to the Mustang Club this year are at record levels. There is more excitement about SMU Football than in the last 20 years. So why is Turner slamming on the brakes allowing his coach to wither on the vine and have to try and explain to his High School contacts why is not a liar and is still trustworthy? What is Turner up to? Is it jealousy over spotlight? Is it jealousy over June being nationally heralded as the Saviour of SMU football? Is it jealousy that Turner has always been top-dog as far as pay and now June walks in making more money than Turner and June is also getting all the spotlight? Is Turner that petty that he would rather run June Jones off with I am sure Orsini not far behind, just so Turner returns to being "top dog"?





Turner is one of 23 private college leaders to earn more than $1 million during the past year, according to a study by the Chronicle of Higher Education. Turner received $1,017,618 from SMU, a 16 percent increase from the 2007 fiscal year. That amount makes Turner the second highest paid employee at SMU, just below head football coach June Jones. Jones received $1,205,164 during the 2008 fiscal year. The Daily Campus gathered this information from SMU's 990 form, which tax-exempt nonprofit organizations must submit to the IRS. This form is a public record. The data for SMU's 2008 fiscal year represent the time period between June 1, 2007, and May 31, 2008. All pay figures represent salary plus the cost of benefits.

This is Texas, not the frikkin' Ivy League. In Texas, for better or worse, football DEFINES your university. Period. SMU has been a laughing stock for 20 years, the butt of jokes about BMW's and pink polos and crappy football teams.

We finally have a good year, are building a program that we can be proud of, and the administration just doesn't get it. They want to run SMU like it's in the northeast...get a clue.

You may not be that pissed now, but what happens if this occurs again next year? What happens if it occurs to a 4 star prospect like Moreland? Then what?

I think he's trying to walk a very difficult line. On one side, is the "Ponyfans" mentality, if UAB or Memphis would let them in, we ought to let them in, regardless of any other rules. I'm using UAB and Memphis because I think they have some of the lowest test scores in CUSA. The other side is "if I have another football player come into my class and who cannot... I'm going public". So there you have it. The football program in my view handicapped itself by having some athletes admitted who were not prepared for classes, some who did not take their studies serious, and some who did not get the assistance they needed to stay eligible. And so we get this. As far as the timing is concerned, I think it was because they had to wait on these players final high school transcripts to see if they could somehow meet our criteria in any way.

I would have zero qualms admitting a Dexter Manley type player to SMU under 2 conditions.

1) he is not a thug.
2) when he leaves SMU, he is somewhat smarter than when he arrived...in my Dexter example, that means he could read.

Makes me even more mad...SMU admissions need to get their collective a$$e$ in gear and treat these recruits with respect.

if you are looking for the real issue you might try taking a good long look at the admissions committee. they seem to be the problem.
turner is just a glorified fund raiser.
