Texas Tech Tidbits

Postby Stallion » Tue Aug 03, 2010 10:14 pm

Texas Tech Offensive Line still huge but substantially thinner. Several lost 40-50 pounds and are still well over 300. A guy who had a lot of interest in SMU NG Bobby Agoucha was readmitted to Texas Tech after getting kicked out of Tech and playing last year for a JUCO-he was a top recruit out of high school. Texas Tech with 6 non-qualifiers including DE Lawrence Cayou who they stole from SMU., and Turbeville wants each Coach to recruit one player who likely won't qualify to be placed in a JUCO

FOOD for THOUGHT-Interesting follow up by a Tech poster on the success or more accurately lack of success that even a school like Texas Tech has NOT had in getting non-qualifiers back in school as contributors to the program. A bunch of these really marginal recruits have trouble graduating from a JUCO much less Texas Tech or a school like SMU. I generrally know that this information is pretty accurate and nobody has contradicted his facts yet. But also consider SMU has provided an avenue for these types of recruits to be admitted to SMU by graduating with an AA from a JUCO and has had a bunch of these types of non-qualifiers out of high school.

Leach didn't come close to getting 60% DNQs back.

Seems to be a good strategy as long as you oversign, don't expend too much effort in the recruitment and placement of these guys and don't depend on them. Some upside with very little cost.

Methinks people are getting too caught up in the offense at Tech. Look at Tubberville's track record with offensive coordinators. Tubberville's history has all the characteristics of a HC wanting a high-flying offense in concept, but hating it in come gameday.

TT is a younger version of RC Slocum.

Texas Tech is going to have a top nationally ranked offense.

What worries me about this game is the depth that Tech has at running back. The supposedly have talent three-deep at RB. In a game played in hot weather, their big and talented OL matches up favorably against our talented, but thin defense. It will be tough to stop the Tech RBs if our defense is gassed in the second half. Unless SMU comes out and build a two to three touchdown lead due to opportunity on offensive and sloppiness by Tech it will be a tough game to win. Go Ponies.

also when Tech throws it...I'm assuming we'll be in nickel.

Who are the 5 DBs?

Moore...Banjo...and three newcomers? Bennie Thomas? Crawford? This is where having no Bell and no McConico hurts.

Maybe Jeremy Gray steps up.

If Moore loses any time to injury...could be in a tough situation

6 kids from the recruiting class don't qualify? Tubberville responds by saying, "oh we planned on that". Sure you did Tommy! What else have you planned for? Your QB breaking his leg? He didn't even recruit most of these kids - Mike Leach did.

So tech recruits 27 or so kids per year, even though they only have 20 scholarships availalbe, because they know six or seven won't qualify. What if by some miracle they do qualify? You have six or seven kids that have to wait for their scholarship by grey shirting (which could have otherwise gone to SMU or anywhere. I wonder if the kids know they may have to grey shirt when they committ?

The Tech offensive linemen are big tubs of lard.

We have not pressured a TT QB in years. Hopefully with some pressure from our up front guys, the secondary can become a little better. Tough but this is where my hope lies.

The corner spot is going to be dicey this year. I think Crawford will come in ready to play and Im hopefull Parks or one of the other freshman can hold it down in that 3rd corner spot.

Ive seen all I want to see out of Beanie.

Their line was actually pretty solid last year, but it looks like they are ALL gone. This roster lists
0 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 4 Sophomores, and 7 Freshman. Can that be right? Even if every one of those had a redshirt year, that's a whole lot of inexperience up front.
