Nice.

There were several schools in the top 50 I'd never even heard of, including both California Institute of Technology and Georgia Institute of Technology.

Pretty impressive move up. We did just have the largest number of applicants this last enrollment cycle. That could have increased the admission numbers (GPA, SAT, Cum Laude grads, etc.) thus helping improve our ranking.

Interesting to see that engineering is now one of the top five majors. Nice improvement there as well.

Most folks know GIT by its abbreviated name, Georgia Tech.

California Institute of Technology is normally referred to as "CalTech", which is an excellent technical school.

Congrats.

I wish the rankings had substance, though - it's too bad some people actually base their decisions on these alone.

California with 8 schools rated higher than UT. (Rice of course rated highest in Texas).

Might change a little when the budget crisis really starts to kick in.

And in case you really get confused, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is Virginia Tech. Not to be confused with their former arch rival, Virginia Military Institute.

Prediction: SMU will be in the low 40's high 30's of these rankings by 2018. The amount of money, infrastructure improvements, faculty upgrades, etc. that is currently going on at SMU is astounding. Truly a defining moment in the history of the school. We will be either neck and neck or eventually we will surpass The University of Texas.

Bingo. It's sad to see, really. The California public higher education systems are one of the jewels of that state. But they are getting absolutely hammered with the annual budget crises there.

F California. They elected the idiots who got them in the position they're currently in financially.

But when it's all said & done, it comes down to looking at the schools within the school (business, eng., etc.) & what you do with the degree once you get it. There are guys from Long Beach State that are worth millions so one has to laugh at a lot of these rankings. Every school graduates it's dummies - especially in our dumbed-down education system today.

Are you crazy!!! Get your fact straight! We've gone from #1 to 40-something in just 30 short years! The unions control this state & its education system & it'll never come back - NEVER! They've run them in the ground & I'm talking from first-hand knowledge. NO WAY!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
