Give it up for THE SPAZThe Spaz is a good kid. Met him at the Rice game, although I often have issues with the band for playing nothing but THE SAME GOD DAMN SONG every other second, I may have had a change of heart. You're good people Spaz. Beat TCU... go ponies.

Re: Give it up for THE SPAZYou don't know what it's like to really have to hear that "god damn song",which for your edification is called..surprise...Peruna, every minute of every game. Be lucky you, for your sake, that you hear it just the few times that you do and yes, Spaz is a good guy. He's very spirited and a heck of a guy. If some people at SMU had his enthusiasm then the games would be a lot more fun.

Re: Give it up for THE SPAZSpaz is cool, thanks for backin' that one up. Rolex, YOU'RE IN THE BAND...NUFF SAID, find one person OUTSIDE the band that really wants to hear "peruna" every second. I love the spririt, but why not take some requests, chill out.
word.
Re: Give it up for THE SPAZActually, I'm not in the band. I am a band alum. Also,I am not criticizing you, I just think you misunderstood my point. The primary we play that "god damn song" is because the main objective is to support the football team. That's why the band doesn't really play any other songs other than Peruna,Pony Battle Cry and some spirit items and cadences during the game save for the end of a quarter. The Mustang Band's job is, in essence, is to provide non-stop support to the football team. The entertainment for the fans really comes after the game with the post-game concert.
It used to be that the band(prior to 1994) would play Peruna almost non-stop from start to finish. I could tell you that it probably was played an average of at least 200-300 times a game. Of course, around the time I was first in the Mustang Band, which was 1992, that was around the average. For some of those who came before me, that was probably under what they did. Just so you know, the actual record for number of times is 701 in 1979 against Tulane at the Superdome. That's why I said that if the number of times you hear it now, which is probably anywhere from 60-80 times a game, is annoying then I think you'd probably not really like hearing it anywhere from 200-300 times a game, much less 701. In fact, now that I think about it, last week there was a post by a LA Tech fan that said that they were even annoyed by hearing the song. Another reason is that we play it to get under the skin of the opponent. Great way to do that is just whip them into submission. Anyway, that's all I have to really say, so no need to think that I am jumping on you. I was just merely saying that what you hear now is nothing compared to how it used to be...back when we actually did win a few games.
Re: Give it up for THE SPAZSpaz is overrated.
Oh you gotta love it. The horns, the drums, the noise! It's all for the love of music, for the love of the game.
Re: Give it up for THE SPAZYou're just bitter. :p
Re: Give it up for THE SPAZThanks, buddy... TBell, thanks for the kind comments. See ya at the BBall game and we'll go grab that beer! The Spaz WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!
Re: Give it up for THE SPAZOh you love me. Oh you gotta love it. The horns, the drums, the noise! It's all for the love of music, for the love of the game.

Re: Give it up for THE SPAZOk, I'll give you the cliff notes since you are of the generation that has limited attention span. 1.Primary job of band during game is for spirit. Entertainment comes at halftime and afterwards. 2.The 60-80 times a game you hear it is nothing. Try back when it was played 200-300 times a game, with 701 being the record. 3.Basically trying to tell you that I was not jumping on you, just explaining why Peruna is played so often. How's that for a synopsis. Have a nice day. ![]()
