Theory: The TTU Effect

Postby SmooBoy » Fri Aug 27, 2010 2:03 pm

Whether we like it or not, the TTU game will have a great impact on the attendance for the UAB game. The TTU game is a national broadcast, and has no NFL competition. Conversely, the Blazers will bring only a smattering of fans, and name recognition for UAB in the Metroplex is nil. I say that our Sunday game performance will dictate the opener as such:

~Blown out by 21 or more points = under 15K
~Beaten by 10-20 points = 15K to 17K
~Close loss under 10 points = 17K to 20K
~Win in any fashion, by 1 point to 149 = 20K to 28K

With no SFA-style Operation Sellout push or a strong showing in Lubbock, we shant see butts in seats until the purple-shirted westerners arrive.

If we get blown out, the only fans in attendance will be ponyfans.com posters with 500 or more posts

I disagree. First home game of the year is usually one of the best attended, especially by the students, regardless of the opponent. If you take big draw opponents out of the equation, I'd say First game and family weekend are the most attended, followed by homecoming.

First game draws fans because football has been away for so long and hope springs eternal. The students show up, especially the freshman, because it's exciting and new, and it's what your supposed to do in college. In the past, somehow they have forgotten this as the season wore on and the losses pilled up. Hopefully that will be a problem no more.

Instead of discussing number of seats filled... i think it's more relevant to analyze the % of the boulevard participants who make it to the game.

A win over tech and we may get 75% of the boulevarders to stop drinking (temporarily at least) and make it to Ford

A blowout in lubbock (which I don't foresee)... and it may be closer to 35%

How many people are you going to get to come to the game that have never been?

That's the fastest and best way we'll increase regular attendance.

Bring some neighbors / friends -- show them around the blvd, let them know you'll be there every game and let them know/see that if you're not there anyone has easy access to beverages / food and when they see the ponies play they will know we are back and a Saturday SMU game is a greatness.

And with the close loss, I say 18,750 is just about right.
