Mike Sherman rumored to be leaving Aggy for Cleveland?

Postby WorldStang » Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:14 pm

I think he's the dark horse, but interesting to watch aggy going nuts right now.

The things I've read are all speculation, but it would couple the Sherman-ator with Mike Holmgren again. Interesting when you consider the lack of big success in college station.

Just love watching my aggy friends spewing on facebook right now..

not an aggy fan but i would say this year was a pretty big success for them. they beat ou, texas and tech. only reason they didn't play in the conference championship game was losing 3 way tiebreaker to bcs rankings. i would say that's a successful year.

Well there are some circumstances when...nevermind...I'm not going there.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Sherman always seem to me to be a space occupying lesion at A$M until a Pro job came along.

I think there are a bunch of Aggies who will be extremely relieved if Sherman leaves. Sherman did a good job this year in a down year for the Big 12 South but he's basically non-competitive in recruiting with the Top programs. He'll be fair to middlin' his whole career at A&M. If they want to compete for National prominence then they would be better off with someone else-the problem will be finding the Right Guy and the timing isn't great

that would be a tremendous hire. They might own UT for awhile with that guy in charge.

I think Sherman could do more there then Stllion thinks. THey have a very good, very young core right now -

a buddy of mine's wife who wen to a&m (he's an SMU alumni, but also a Nebraska fan) couldn't understand why OU and NE were playing for the conf. championship when Aggie beat BOTH of them. funny how it works out. eff aggie

per rivals-
Pre-Sherman
2007: #43 in the country, #8 Big XII

With Sherman
2008: #16 in the country, #4 Big XII
2009: #22 in the country, #3 Big XII
2010: #17 in the country, #3 Big XII
2011 (so far): #32 in the country, #6 Big XII

Looks like he's definitely improved the program but like you said, not a "Top Program" if you are hoping to be competing with Texas, OU, USC, Alabama etc. I think it's going to be hard to just hire a new coach and turn it into a program like that. Think it'll take multiple years like this year where they can beat the big boys in the big 12 and start playing for some conference championships. If I were an A&m fan, i don't know that i'd be too desperate for sherman to leave...unless a really big time guy was coming in.
