CUSA, MWC, Big12-7 meger

Postby fan » Mon Sep 05, 2011 6:58 pm

Here's a link to a thread on another board. http://www.ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=512084

If the Big 12 does end up losing OU, Texas, Tech, and Okie St then the remaining schools stand to gain about 60 million dollars in exit fees. That's a bunch of dough. The NCAA gave the WAC a waiver on the 6 team rule for automatic berth to the NCAA tourney and I'm sure would do the same for KU, et al.

If Bebe is smart (and I don't know the man but am doubtful) he'd tell KU, K-State, Mizzou, Baylor and Iowa State..."look- we can get you 60 million up front, we get Boise, Air Force, Houston, Tulsa, and Nevada who all have BCS qualifying points which will get us auto BCS for at least the next 4 years then add SMU and SDSU for TV and recruiting and let's knock out a deal with ESPN for the "Big Southwest Confernce." Intrigue for all the current Big 12 schools as they automatically become much bigger fish in a smaller pond and get to keep AQ status. Mizzou may have an easy trip to the National Championship game.

Would obviously have to be called 'the Big Mountain USA conference'. :)

Yea, I know it's a long shot but if Bebe wants to keep a job then he needs to do some serious work for himself instead of just doing what UT says he should do.

He needs to sell Mizzou and KU that they'd now be the big boys on the block. If they move to the Big East then they're still playing second fiddle. Big 10 even worse. Now is the time they can step up and be the drivers instead of the driven.

On the rivals main board there is a lot of talk about the PAC taking Kansas over Tech

I love Texas...after [deleted] everyone of their conference mates off and running off four of its best programs, they actually believe Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would take them with them to the Pac! Better put the Whorns in your conference as no one else will take them and after another losing year, they will be unable to go independent.

I'd agree on the dead weight like Rice, Tulane and UAB. Unfortunately we were that weight 3 years ago and unfortunately bring no BCS points with us, unlike Tulsa who, very marginally got about .0007 points by being ranked in the final AP poll last year (funny how that worked since we beat them). We do, however offer geographic appeal and a big upside which we have to sell hard.

If somehow we can get into the top 25 by seasons end we will end up with [i]some[i] bcs points and make ourselves much more appealing

The best thing that could happen, in my opinion, is for Texas to not go to the Pac-12. If Texas doesn't go to the Pac-12 that gives us at least 2 shots at getting in to an AQ conference, which would be the Pac-12 and Big 12.

If Texas goes independent and the Big 12 folds then I have no idea what would happen, I just have a really hard time envisioning a scenario where OU and Texas don't stick together, they hate each other but they know they need each other. But if Texas goes independent and the Pac-12 doesn't scoop schools exclusively from the Big 12 and the Big 12 somehow stays alive, then, presumably, we would still have a shot.

If Texas goes to the Pac-12 with OU and other Big 12 company then we are completely screwed. The Big 12 will fold and I just really don't want it to come to that.

Our fate is basically in Texas' hands and it is a terrible feeling. Being on the outside looking in is no fun.

And for Bebe, the guy is clearly an idiot so don't get your hopes up about him coming up with some grand idea. That moron is about to let a conference fold that had A&M, UT, OU, OSU, Tech etc... think about that.

I'm not saying they would be big boys in the Big East, but they would be far more competitive than they are today. I think the BE would just be stepping stone for both school (Mizzou to Big 10, and Kansas to Big 10/ACC).

Agree but again it boils down to Bebe and what he wants to do with his job. If his job is to keep the Big 12 conference together then he promotes this idea. If he does not care then he lets the schools drift away. Unfortunately I do not believe he understands this or cares which is really sad considering the amount of money he makes (too lazy to click and read? 500k/year)

Anyone responsible for destroying what was the second best football conference is America, shouldn't be the guy cobbling a new conference together. Fire hire him now before OU and OSU leave.

The way things seem to be headed the CUSA may become the new SWC with the best local rivalries year after year, etc. If Texas doesn't play A&M anymore and Texas, Texas Tech, A&M, OU and OSU are playing most of their games in Calif, etc. then rivalries closer to home can be strengthened between SMU, Baylor, Rice, Houston, UTEP, Tulsa, San Antonio, Tulane or some similar mix. State recruiting might become easier because parents and friends want to see their sons and daughters play their games. Some of these large schools might just be hurting their own programs. I'll bet you A&M and TCU are very disappointed. We might rethink our desire to jump at any offer that comes along.

Exactly. There is no way in holy hell the Pac Whatever takes Tech. Any article or thread saying Tech is going to the Pac Whatever should be immediately dismissed.

Tech will be left with Baylor to latch on to whatever is left of the whole CUSA/MWC clusterF.

I'd kind of agree about the tech statement, however the goal is to maintain BCS staus. Tech has WAY more BCS points than KU. In fact sadly, Rice has more BCS points than SMU.

KU's chancellor publically announced that KU has zero ties to KSU in this whole realignment process. Very interesting development.

That's been out there for a few days. Don't think it really changes anything. KU for a long time has viewed itself as above K-State.
