Gilbert at practice?

Post by Get_Some_Ponies »

That was the rumor on twitter. True? Does he get a red shirt consideration/ could he play next year?

He would still have to sit out next year if he goes to any other FBS school.

Any sort of loophole we can get around with the medical redshirt?

If he can graduate, he would be able to play immediately

2009-Lost Redshirt by playing in Rose Bowl
2010: played entire season
2011- played in 2 games but qualifies as medical redshirt
2012-Transfer Year-sit out
2013-Shoulsd have ONLY 1 year of eligibility

It sucks he lost that year by playing in NC but there are no exceptions. I don't think you can take a redshirt year after a medical redshirt. Now you can get a 6th year if you get hurt in the final year of eligibility even after a redshirt or medical redshirt.

I hate to be dense, but if he qualifies as a medical redshirt (which you indicate) then why couldn't he use 2012 as his normal redshirt year and thus have 2 years left? I thought the year when a player sat out after transferring could be treated as a normal redshirt year , is that not the case?

Normal situation: 5 years to play 4
Medical redshirt situation: 6 years to play 4

I think the only way you get 6 years is if you were injured in the 5th year of eligibility. Its called a medical waiver or something.

You chase ambulances. Can't you get one of your "doctor" friends to to a work up?

It doesn't matter if it is in the 5th year or not. You just have to miss two seasons due to injury, look at the Jordan Shipley case.

Gilbert was a great high school QB. Wasn't he a National Player of the Year QB ? I thought he had a terrible season at UT last year, but some of those problems were probably coaching/injuries. If anyone can help him produce his best game in college that would be Coach Morrison. He would apparently have 2 years to play one so he has a good shot of learning the offense. If he can improve, I could see him possibly playing his senior year. That would really help recruiting if he turns out to be a great QB here.
