Can we add 10,000 seats by next October?

Postby Bergermeister » Wed Oct 05, 2011 2:03 pm

We could stuff 45,000-50,000 fans into Ford if we brought in some temporary bleachers for the next TCU game. Would be good if we had 44,000 Mustangs and gave them an allotment of about 1,000 - including their UIL looking high school band. You can bet there won't be any room to roll on the grassy knoll - it'll be shoulder-to-shoulder. And really, really loud.

Yeah... somehow I find it hard to imagine that SMU has 44,000 fans... I mean, I guess you could give some free tickets away to people on the street and offer some kind of incentive for them to wear red or blue at the game, maybe some free food, a free drink, etc... otherwise, I see more of the vicinity of 24,000 Frog fans and maybe 8,000 or so SMU fans...

I went to the game at GFS in 2003, 2005, and 2008- and in all three instances saw about the same (if not more) purple than I did red or blue. So good luck with the "temporary bleacher" idea. I'd love to see how many fans the ponies could muster.

Wrong again, froggie. Last year the crowd was probably 80% SMU, 20% TCwho. Get your facts straight before you talk trash.

Yeah, I wasn't there last year. First time I've missed an Iron Skillet match up since 2002. Little busy being a full-time student, new husband and dad, and a member of the USAF. But cute shot there, who won that game again?

And don't get me wrong, you guys played a hell of a game and I've been rooting for ya'll the past several years. Glad to see your program get up and off the ground, but next year's a different story.

As far as this year goes though, hell of a good game, had me standing all the way through. Hat's off to JJ on a well-coached game.

You need to spend your time comforting your coach rather than posting here. He needs your support.

Ditto. Congrats and thanks.

Why is next year a different story? What has changed?

I'm far from a construction expert, but I would think that if circumstances (AQ conference) warranted expanding Ford, we could close in the horseshoe and add about 12,000 seats by next season- the plans are already in place. If we started at the conclusion of this season, that would give us about nine months for construction, and Dallas had mild winters so construction wouldn't be as delayed then as in other parts of the country.

Maybe I'm completely wrong though- perhaps someone with a construction/engineering background could inform us?

Why would you have to wait until the end of the season? It is just grass that has to be cleared then the cement poured. You could still have games.
Just send 'da money.

When the Rangers moved to Arlington in 1972, the old Arlington Stadium went from 10,000 seats to 35,000 in a six month time frame.
