For the life if me, I don 't understand why we don't do two things in Ford: 1) Sit the students behind the opposition bench, in-between the 40s. 2) Tarp the North end zone Seeing what TCU & Baylor do for their students makes what SMU does a head-scratcher. Why do we stick them in the corner? I believe we got in trouble with the WAC because of student mis-behavior (around the time of the NV helmet incident) but we are two conferences away from that. Make students feel like it's "their" stadium and "their" team and that they influence the game. Giving them corner seats is kinda insulting and makes them seem like spectators. Tarp the end zone. Who are we kidding?

Between the 40's? Don't you mean between the 60's? We have no fans in their 40s....
But yes I agree with you, I was very impressed with what TCU did with their students. Front and center. The way it should be.

There was a CUSA rule that prohibited it. Not sure about the American

Because the students prefer to sit elsewhere around campus rather than in the stadium during football games.

Callallen was correct-it was a CUSA rule

Do you know if the American has a similar rule?

I think it would be great but I just don't think that's going to bring students to the game. When I was recently on campus and when we look like rising stars, students said we were not fun to watch and we didn't play nor best anyone exciting except the tcu game which is always our number 1 fan filler... I think guests to the stadium should get those kind of seats to make their experience fun not throw them on the second deck where no one really is...

In the dark days of the Bennett years...the student section was sparse, but since we were directly behind the opposition bench, we were menacing. We were regularly told by the teams that we were the most obnoxious fans they had ever seen. Now, we had angst but I just think it encourages competitiveness. noise-making, and spirit-ness in general. And this makes the game a little bit more fun for students which might make a small percentage stay longer. Where the students are now aren't bad seats, so put the visitors there. Plus, the visitors would sit next to the band which makes games more enjoyable and "collegeate" for visitors. Plus if A&M and Tech have proved anything, visitor can sit and buy tickets WHEREVER they want. If they want to sit on the 50, they buy it on the home-side, out of the Sun

By "guest", I assume you are talking about the opposing team's fans. TCU has no problem in throwing the guests in the corners and up high...of course they can fill their whole stadium with their own fans. I think most schools put their guests in the corners and end zone seats. We being the perfect host offer our guest the good seats on the east side...we are so civil.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Yet you threw a fit last year when "guest" visited the Cox tailgate and partook of the food. You are quite the enigma Mr. alumni11.

Fit is a strong word, sir. I just didn't care to have the ENEMY's guests at our tailgate. I would be extremely happy to have everyone wearing a red and blue jersey eating everything at the tail gate and then go to the game....

So they cannot eat our food but they deserve the 50 yard line seats. I do not understand your reasoning.
We should welcome our guests. Feed them and give them drink. Smile and thank them for being there. And then stuff them in the farthest corner as all other teams do. Then work hard to get new fans of our own to fill the middle sections.
