The Ford Morgue

Postby CalallenStang » Sat Nov 16, 2013 7:43 pm

I'm not one to bash our attendance, but that was pathetic. Not more than 12,000 at its highest point. 2,000 for kickoff, 3,500 or so at end of the game.

And those that were there had no energy.

It felt like the final games of the Bennett era. I actually thought I was back at 2007 vs. UCF.

Marketing only goes so far. Winning and community engagement are paramount. From this staff, we get a little (not enough) of the first and none of the second.

We need a dynamic coach that can energize the alumni base. I only hope the CoC sees it the same way.

The UCONN offense is a real snore-fest. I can't believe they got 380 yards(most on the season). The QB was putrid-if our DBs could catch name the number of Ints. Parks "attempt" at an int was particularly amusing. Were my eyes deceiving me. I thought there was a No. 45 that was getting burned on Defense but don't see one of the roster. Who was that? The First Team defense wasn't that bad but we kept substituting the 2nd team and they were like lighter fluid-is that the future on Defense?

or is SMU simply a lost cause? we will find out this year after reducing the capacity of Moody and putting what appears to be a quality product on the court that will be playing against nationally respected programs. If we play in front of a half empty Moody, I'd say SMU is simply a lost cause...but I will continue to follow and support the program as we compete at the FCS level.

Many preferred to keep drinking rather than defending our house. We have to show up to every game, no matter how "weak" the other team is. #remembertulane

I agree with the lack of energy. It was very unusual compare to other games. It was annoying being in the student section and you hear these nonstop talking tri delts talking about the mall or they have too much homework... Ugh annoying.

I thought attendance was good about 5 minutes into the game til halftime. I swear that intermission always kills us... The only way I can see students staying all 4 quarters is if it gave them academic credit or GPA booster...

hard to criticize those who actually show up. For everyone who shows up, we can all count plenty of classmates who have completely lost interest, if they ever had any interest in SMU athletics to begin with. I fear it is simply SMU's culture

There were about 6-8 on each row near me from the 42-30 yard line.

actually there were a lot more there than I thought there would be. At the high point, before halftime, it was an ok crowd (by our standards). The Stadium Club looked full to me. UCF was the worst I have ever seen it - 2 yrs ago I guess it was. UConn brought more than I expected.

I guess I've gotten used to it - no expectations. TV timeouts are a killer for any sport and it is really bad nowadays.

I know from the amount of SMU fans that showed up at the AAC to an overpriced game that wasn't in the season ticket package that SMU is not a lost cause.

No, I am going to criticize them. Part of the reason why no one shows up is that the atmosphere is dead. Our fans politely golf clap when our defense forces a punt, and I'd be CoC if I had a dollar for every time I got a weird look for daring to yell "Go Ponies" or the like. The announcer tries to get the crowd to get loud on third downs, and nothing happens. We need training on how to be fans

I was bored to tears. Our offense is boring. Their offense was boring. Our defense was comical always, which got boring. Our home side is boring. Sure, we yelled and cheered but this game was particularly difficult to get into. We need to inject some excitement into our football program...badly.

The fans are too beaten down. It's is a vicious circle. No one goes so no one cheers. We do show up to cheer the team plays bad and gets blown out. It starts with winning and playing exciting brand of ball. I as rabid a fan as anyone and I am just beaten down by football.

It is not a lost cause as June needs to engage the fan base and students more. He is kind of distant to the fan base.

I was commenting that until Thompson made his catch-great stiff arm and run-there were few athletic plays in the game even though we were throwing some downfield. UCONN literally puts a sleep hold on the crowd. No great returns, exciting interceptions, long runs, punt returns or sacks until late. It just was a pretty vanilla game. The only thing that kept me interested is the string a 2nd stringers who were inserted and were almost all awful-except Minor

Funny that people say our offense is "Boring." June's offense was supposed to be the kind of high-octane offense that would attract the casual Dallas fan to SMU games
