What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?What would it take to get Jimmy Johnson to coach at SMU?
Really just a thought. Maybe a pipe dream? Wouldn't it be something if Jimmy Johnson came back to college to coach SMU? Jimmy Johnson was an incredible coach at Miami and an even better coach for our Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy Johnson would be able to show Jerry Jones how he can build a winning football program in Dallas. We all know that there was a falling out with the Dallas Cowboys. Let's face it, the city of Dallas supports winners! The city of Dallas would be electric with fan support for SMU! Ford Stadium would be full every Satuday! Talk about making a splash! Who would have thought that Larry Brown would have come back to coaching to coach SMU. Why not Jimmy Johnson? I fully realize that Jimmy Johnson has been away from coaching for a number of years now, is probably happy being semi-retired, and has more money than he knows what to do with, but maybe he misses the game? Maybe his ego would drive him to want to show Dallas and the nation a winning team at SMU? How great would that be? Can anyone make this happen, please? Larry Brown to SMU.... Jimmy Johnson to SMU. Both Coaching Legends. Both Winners. Similar accomplishments. Well respected coaches. Great recruiters. Great evaluators of talent. Why not?
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?There's not enough meth in the world to get enough people high enough to make that happen.
We don't need Jimmy Johnson, we just need a coach who cares and actually wants to be here and will fulfill the required duties of his job BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.

Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?The first born of every single SMU alumni.
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?A Perfect Match. Jimmy Johnson and SMU. Dallas loved Jimmy Johnson. Dallas will once again love SMU Football. Recruits will want to play for Jimmy Johnson. Ford will be packed. The national media will latch on to this story. Really, who would not want to see Jimmy Johnson back in Dallas building a football program in Dallas?
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?Cute idea but Jimmy Johnson isn't Larry Brown, the guy has been out of coaching for well over a decade and hasn't expressed any desire to pursue openings (whereas Brown coached consistently during that period and practically begged for the SMU job). If he ever did want to come back he'd have P5 and NFL teams staking out his boat 24/7 to vie for his services.

Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?Ron Meyer...hell can't we pay him to coach and recruit for June...make June a $2.1 QB coach with a "head coach" title for a year or something
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?
I don't know about that 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?Barry Switzer!
a great recruiter, personality, and he can sell his wine at the Ford. He loves Dallas. Corby on the Ticket can host his weekly radio show. Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?So apparently Larry Brown has now convinced many that June Jones is too young.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?
mrydel for SMU head coach
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?I'm on board with Ron Meyer although I am crazy enough to still think that June Jones is the answer with the right staff. I am still hoping we land the 2 UT coaching casualties that Stallion mentioned several weeks ago.
Re: What would it take? Jimmy Johnson to Coach at SMU?Butch Davis.
He wants to coach again. He has NFL street cred. He has been a successful college coach at a high level. Knows how to identify, recruit, and coach talent. He is the FB equivalent of Larry Brown. He could win and pave the way for SMU to go to a P5 conference. Pony 81
