Saw June again tonight

Postby East Coast Mustang » Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:21 pm

He was sitting up in one of the corner suites. It must be perplexing to him, seeing students and alums getting excited about a coach that recruits top talent, makes efforts to promote SMU in the community, and embraces the school's traditions.

Also, he was wearing a BLUE shirt. The guy wears [deleted] black on the sideline for every [deleted] football game and then makes an attempt to wear one of our colors while tucked away in a suite at a basketball game?

Love how every single other name is mentioned about attending, except for him.

Cue the ESPN 30 for 30 voice. "What if I told you there was a party in my party suite, and nobody showed up for the party?

I saw Steve Collins there. He was wearing a red shirt.

He wears black on the sideline so the QB can find him - he calls the plays, he's got other people looking for him, he's the HC, so he wears black (with a mustang on it) to stick out. Frankly, I began to wonder if even the lei didn't serve this purpose.

Also, LB has been VERY open about how JJ recruited him here. Why wouldn't JJ show up, in what may be the single biggest recruiting job in school (athletic) history.

Go after JJs lack of football recruiting. Ask if he's hungry anymore. Say he's not getting it done on the field and in the HS kids homes. I AGREE WITH YOU. But get over the stupid shirt. And quit asking why the guy who helped recruit possibly the GREATEST BASKETBALL COACH EVER to this school goes to the games.

I'll preface all of this with the fact that I live in SEC country and grew up an SEC fan before I ever heard of SMU...

In my opinion, an FBS coach making $2 million a year shouldn't even consider leaving the house without at least one article of clothing with the school logo on it. Going to Church? Put that SMU pin on your lapel. Going to play golf? Nike gave you about a dozen golf shirts with our logo on them - wear one. Going to the gas station for a Slim Jim? Put on your SMU Coach T-shirt. Going for your daily run? Wear some SMU logo'd running shorts.

As the head coach of the football team, you're one of the most recognizable public faces of the University. There isn't an excuse for not wearing an SMU logo everywhere he goes.

Yeah, I grew up in SEC country with a sister who is a rebel and a father who holds SEC records in football; so big whoop.

You got pics of June running around HP naked except for a Hawaii hat than POST IT. But at least get it straight. And the questions aren't about what JJ wears out on the town, they are on what he wears on game day, and they still aren't relevant.

All I've said is get the criticism straight. It does nobody any good to criticise him off showing up at the BB game when he helped recruit the coach.

One question Leopold. Could a college educated athlete not be able to spot a Blue shirt on the sideline also? We obviously are not going to wear that color so it should stand out. He can wear black if he wants but those that use the "so the players can see him" excuse are being ridiculous. He just likes to wear black.

June did not recruit LB but he kept him involved once they turned him down initially. And Kris Lowe probably deserves just as much credit if not more for doing that as JJ.

JJ responsible for LB is the next great June apologist myth.

Gosh I wish JJ had worn a SAE shirt so we could witness the absolute apoplectic meltdown of those that thieve on this incredibly petty board.

“June kept insisting that he thought I was the right person,” Brown said. “I didn’t even know June was such a basketball fan. He kept pushing me to stay engaged, even though I didn’t feel like there was much chance, based on what I’d heard and the process."

Sounds like a recruitment to me, on both sides.

Whatever, point is, JJ was verbal about wanting him here, so why wouldn't he go to the games?

I don't see why not, but why not make it easier on the kid? What about others on the sideline looking for him? But again, the point is that there's a reason for it.

NOW, CAN WE GET BACK TO CRITICIZING HIS RECRUITING?

I have to agree with Leopold. As one who has asked June to resign and Hart & Turner to fire him, I cannot be considered a JJ apologist. But, criticism of him for things that do not matter to winning is not only ridiculous but detracts from criticism for things that do matter. These types of complaints only serve to give the apologists ammunition that the criticism is based on petty, irrelevant, stuff.

Honestly, I think it's great that JJ is going to basketball games (regardless of his attire - just glad he is clothed because that is an image I just can't handle) and hope he is taking some mental notes along the way because he is seeing everything he hoped to see out of his football program right before his eyes in Moody: quality team, engaged students and fans, energetic coaching staff that works their butts off to make the first two things on the list happen. I also hope Hart (or someone from the CoC) is whispering in his ear all game "see coach, it really is not that f-ing hard to pull it off here if you put some damned effort behind it". I know none of this is happening and Tiki Boy is never going to change, but one can always hope that he develops the desire to give a crap via osmosis if nothing else.
