Re: Norm to tell why SMU is not a good jobglad to know we're getting the continued support from our DFW media re: this.
![]() Very curious as to what their informed take is given that they generally haven't followed the program to understand what has led us to this point and curious to see if they are able to clearly articulate not only the considerations but also the benefits of our football program, our conference, our city and what the U. can offer. I won't hold my breath though.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobI thought he teased it as "IF" it is a good job or not.....of course I'm working very hard in my office, so wasn't paying too much attention until I heard SMU.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobLets say Norm is right, and it isn't a good job. I still think we will be ok. Maybe we can't get a Chad Morris, but I still think it will be an upgrade from Phil and June. We needed both to come here and do their thing, but I think even if we could only hire someone who applied here.....like Major did, we'd be better off. Is he in my top 4, not currently. But I'd still be optimistic that he could improve on what Phil and June did.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobAnswer: It's not a good job, its a GREAT job.
Not kidding.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobSometimes he doesn't know what he's talking about
Derail the Frogs!
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobGood grief. SMU is an incredible job for the right candidate.
Great Location Great Academics Beautiful Campus Good (not great) Facilities Money (will pay $2-3M) The SMU job is a Top 50 job in the country. We will have no shortage of quality candidates to choose from. Things are a lot different here in 2014 than back in 2007 when we last went through this. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobPlus after this season, once again, there's nowhere to go but up.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobWe ain't Alabama but we sure as hell aren't Middle Tennessee State or Florida Atlantic. There are some obvious warts to our program (attendance, lack of IPF, etc.) but they are vastly outweighed by the incredibly positive built in advantages of SMU.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobi think he meant to say the cowboys.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobJesus, get to the point.
You're a potential HC looking at this job. You: What's my salary? SMU: Second highest in conference. We can and will make you the highest if you can prove your worth it. You: What's my budget? SMU: Second highest in conference. You: What's the salaries I'm going to have to pay assistants? SMU: Amongst the highest in the conference. You: How are the facilites? SMU: Younger than your players. We offered the last coach an IPF but he didn't agree to the location. We can make it happen if you can work with us. You: How's the recruiting? SMU: Arguably the best recruiting area in the country. You shouldn't have to go more than 3 hrs. away at any time. You: Can I get the kid in? SMU: Yes. We talk about academic standards for the sake of the school, but in actuality you can get most any kid a Houston or Texas Tech can. Why do you want somebody stupid anyway?
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobSo what did Norm say? Anybody?
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Norm to tell why SMU football HC is not a good jobAlso we wont fire you even if you bring national embarrassment by trying to leave, get an offer letter, and then get told to take a hike during the biggest recruiting weekend for the program in 25 years all in one day and then continue 2 years of complete apathy.... i mean sounds pretty good, you really cant screw up versus being at a UT where there actually is a short leash.
