SMU is striving to be a top top program. How SMU accomplishes the climb will always be debated. Engaging the local community while climbing into the top 50 will certainly be a balancing act.

Well written. I can assure you most of DFW feels this way about us. Thanks June.

I remember when I was a student I read an article about this kid. Seems like he represents SMU very well. SMU should listen. Mr. Seay looks like a winner.

Very impressive, an example of leadership. Glad he is one of us and he is sounding the warning bells for SMU to get its [Deleted] together.

I think I may have brought up on this board a program TCU has to get students admitted from South Dallas County but if it is TCU 50 SMU 0 that really is shocking

When it comes to academic issues admittance, I hardy see how this is a JJ fault.
The core issues that this person brings up stem from administrative precedence, not from a coach.

Here is a story on the TCU-Desoto connection. The program also involves Dallas Carter, Dallas Lincoln and Arlington Sam Houston as well as FWISD schools

Agreed. If it really is 50 vs. 0, that's shocking. I'm not saying SMU should lower the bar, but if there are (local) students above the bar that aren't being fairly considered...

Could be that TCU reaches out more to them than SMU. Can't have that you come to us but we are not reaching out to you attitude.

Devil's Advocate question... Why is reaching out to DeSoto so important?
I'm not saying it is, or isn't.

Why does SMU consider itself worthy of support from the Dallas community?

Desoto is just an example. It's not just Desoto but the entire southern sector of Dallas. It's kind of like we want them to come to football games and give SMU their good athletes but we don't want to reach out to them. They notice this stuff like the young man said.
