The talent disparity between the two teams has never been greater, and it never will be again

I remember the game in 1977 or was it 1978 down in Waco with Mike Ford. We had a come back from 21 points down to win if I remember correctly 28-21. There never was such a talented disparity in those days.

It was quite simply the greatest annual SWC shootout for over a decade between 1975 and 1986. I think there were 3-4 games where a team went up by 20-21 and managed to LOSE. Almost every game was a shootout that went down to the final gun. In 12 games between 1975-1986, 10 games were decided by Touchdown or less. SMU in 1981 won 37-20 and in 1983 42-26 so no real blowouts. Baylor to me will always be a bigger rivalry than the SMU/TCU rivalry which has only had about 1-2 great games in 50 years between quality teams. I'll give you the June Jones victory in Ft. Worth as a classic Game between 2 good teams. The rest-a couple of upsets and a few David and Goliath matches and that's about it. SMU v TCU is the most boring rivalry that I can think of

Guess you were not there the day JJ Joe and the Bears destroyed SMU at Owenby circa 1991.

Not one pass attempt in the entire game by a top 25 Baylor team. Ran ball every single play and we could not stop them. Even in the 4th when we knew for sure that they would not be passing the ball. It was either 44-0 or 44-10, I cannot recall...

I think the disparity in talent will be much less pronounced this year than in last year's debacle. Our offense couldn't do anything right in last year's game.

yeah but then you realize that Baylor put up 62 on a great TCU defense. Actually, in retrospect the SMU v Baylor score-wasn't that bad  :( :?

Whether it was boredom or mercy, the SMU losses last year to both TCU and Baylor were not as bad as the beatings those schools put on some others.

I was at Tech-TCU last year, and I've not seen anything like that (certainly not live) since 95-21.

On second thought... maybe I'm mis-remembering, but 95-21 was just being completely outmanned. Completely. I don't remember our guys ever flat-out quitting.

Tech rolled over. They totally quit about halfway through the third quarter.

May have actually been a worse beating than we endured.

We hurt Petty in the second quarter, that was some cause for disruption.

We also did everything we could to eat clock. Not only on offense but bend-don't-break on defense as well. Slowed them down a bit. Field goals instead of TDs as well.

The Baylor d line against our o line in the opener last season was one of the most dominant unit versus unit performances I have ever seen. Totally blew us away.

Worse than Navy '08.

It was actually the '93 game. Baylor ran the ball 91 times for 482 yards. I think 4 backs may have hit 100 yards. The third stingers were pounding us in the 4th. I can't find the box score, but I am guessing with our run and shoot, the time of possession was some sort of record. The 91 rush attempts was a SWC record.

Yep I was at that 93 game - sad, just sad. But those teams never laid down I'll give them that.
