Is the new QB in town? Unofficial summer workouts started last week, I think, and I was wondering if he is there, working with his new teammates. Anybody been out to watch? How does he look?

I'm eager to read more about this guy. I remember he got lots of accolades in high school, and if he was recruited to play in the Big 10, I guess he can play. Anyone check him out first-hand yet?

I heard that Alexander Webb will not be at SMU in the fall. He definitely considered coming and playing in his hometown, but apparently he is going back to school at Northwestern.

Where did you hear that? The Morning News ran a piece on him coming, and I assumed that meant he was pretty certain about it.

I hadn't heard anything about this young man since his very serious injury a few years ago. I'm glad to see that he's apparently doing well.

Bobby, Hobbs is looking for you.

Is that Rick Fox? You got to get rid of that.

Pissed off thread?

Postby jtstang » Wed Jun 16, 2004 4:29 pm

What happened to Stallion's thread where he was pissed off about this guy not getting hours accepted by SMU and deciding not to come? Did it get pulled, and if so, why? That was informative.

I imagine it got pulled because the "self proclaimed" winner had to resort to the "F" word to make his point. If he is so smart and so right you would think he could express himself with more proper language on a sight accessed by young fans. Or was I the only one who could decipher his clever disguise of the word.

I am happy to hear all opinions from all comers on this board. I enjoy the sparring when disagreements arise, but for the sake of impressionable kids who may respect some of the opinions on this board and for just common manners, can we keep it at least at a PG level.

That said, if the kid could not transfer all of his hours, the playing field is not even. I do not care why, I do not care if there are other schools that could not have done it either. The fact is the kid could not bring all of his grades to the school he wanted to attend and from which he hoped to graduate. So he went back from whence he came. Should something be changed to correct this? I do not know. But I guess that since I have spoken my mind (and with no vulgar words) I WIN!!!!!!!

Congrats on the win. I guess we can chalk that up as another "L" for SMU, though.

Shouldn't the B school take the hit here? They're most probably at fault with their policy of accepting NO transfer credits.

If I read the removed thread correctly, Prof. X had posted that Cox has changed their policy and does except transfer credits from accredited schools. The real issue was the loss of hours caused by transfering from a school on the quarter system to a school on the semester system.

...and NOT that SMU wouldn't take his credits, which was alleged.

And no mention as to why it REALLY mattered when he was going to have 4 years of FREE education at SMU / 3 years of playing time, and he still chose to go back to NW on his nickle (since he won't be returning to the football team, I am assuming that NW is not going to let him keep his scholarship)

I refuse to speculate!!! (as MNFootball commentators watched Theismann's leg break in two -- "but this could be the end of Joe Theismann's football career")

BUT, it sounds more to me like he decided not to play football anymore than anything else, and staying at NW was quicker to graduation than going to SMU, which is understandable if you don't want to play FB anymore, despite the scholarship.
