I hear ND is going to teal and pink, with some kind of a faux paisley pattern on its helmets.
Are you sure that isn't A&M making those changes?

And yes, I respect SMU's tradition, its stated goals, etc etc...but I also feel it is important to evolve from a marketing/image standpoint.
I don't think Stallion was ever of that opinion. It is obvious that since the mid 50s SMU has had various color combinations of shades of red and blue, most of which were not true to the original school colors, so this is not a new phenomenon. I was one of those glad to see us return to the original school colors, but not everyone was. Everything I have posted today on this thread is basically just my opinion which I am sure will not be shared by everyone, nor did I expect it to be.
As far as marketing is concerned...it is winning that the crowds want to see...it certainly can't be the color burnt orange that draws them in.

It would be nice to have a standard color on t-shirts and hats though. I get tired of going to the bookstore and finding almost every other color on the spectrum other than our school colors. Mostly I wear a red shirt to games, and since red doesn't change too much, that doesn't matter. But, I do have a hat and a couple of shirts that are both more of a navy blue, because that's the only color blue that they had other than baby blue.

I agree with you about the winning. And I definitely agree with you on the most hideous color on any palette.

FYI, "Yale Blue" seems to be officially set at pms 289, although I came across a couple references to pms 286 being used.
I didn't see anything officially called "Harvard Crimson" in my quick google search, but I did find a Harvard website telling people to use pms 201 and alternately pms 187.
"pms 187" is just asking for a joke.

Orsini said they are calling the colors SMU Red and SMU Blue for what it is worth. Does that help PK?

Just go back to the early '80s unis. Those were the best in the history of college football.

No way, although they're better than what we have now, they reek of
death.
Just invert the colors on the 80s helmet with a wide white stripe at the
top, and you have a combo of the 60s, and 80s unis.

OK, I am a convert to this degree. I can live with 286 blue and 186 red. I recant about the red helmet and vote for the white helmet with a red mustang. I still end up with the blue jersey and white pants. I cite again the market research that says you should judge a uniform's appearance from the pressbox, not by a close up look on the field.

how about we let alumni pick out what the SMU polo shirts look like, and let the players decide on uniforms...

exactly - they're the ones who have to wear them. If they don't like them, they can change them.

i love how all the "old timers" on here want to revert back to the design of the 80's... im sure my dad would have designed a different jersey for smu too, but our current uniforms are stylish and up to date with the times (unlike many of the posters on here).... if you want to design your smu golf shirt to show off at tailgate go for it, but let the unis reflect what is in style (excepton: Oregon)... i know someone will say well i donate ________ dollars to support the mustangs so it should be up to me...

Since someone has tried to turn the uniform design debate into a generational gap issue, then let's have the people who go to the games decide what to wear. In that case the students will have the least to say about it because they don't attend. Perhaps the ones who have seen the most games have the best persepctive about what looks good since they have seen it all.
