Wasn't it Saban who went somewhere for a couple of days and then went somewhere else. (Michigan State to LSU?)

FranchioneModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Back to the subject. Seems like the Aggies are pretty firm in their stand that nothing will happen till the end of the season... so is there nothing to any of this?
Actually I was born in Texas, raised in Arkansas, colleged in Texas, worked all over the USA including Texas and have now resettled in Arkansas for the past 16 years. My buy out would be cheap to come back however.
Sweet. I'm starting the slush/slushee fund. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
it may go like this. Second hand from TexAgs.com. I read A&M is on the hook for 8 Million in contractual obligations to Fran. Think they can get off with 2 Million by firing him for cause at the end of the year. I don't believe that is going to work except as a negotiating ploy. But it may affect SMU's ability to close the deal. I bet they meet somewhere in the middle. As soon as Nebraska fires its coach they are in competition. Can't believe Callahan wasn't fired today.
Trying to read between all the lines including the Aggie newspaper, it sounds as though the deal has been done for a while but it was not supposed to leak out. Somehow word got out. I think, purely an uninformed opinion, that depending on how much pressure is put on those that know, the word will come out in the next day or two or it will be successfully quashed until the season is over. But all indications are that the buy out has been agreed by all.
I don't know. The guy might be guilty of having a bad bedside manner....but come on, he has an overall record of 186-100. At Pittsburg State he was 57-6, at TCU they were 1-10 the year before he arrived and then went, 7-5, 8-4, and 10-1. 2-0 in Bowl games. Then went 10-3 and tied for first place in the SEC west in his second and final season at Bama. He also took Pittsburg State from NAIA to D2. That is not luck
I know you read these thing better than I but it was my impression that end of the season they could try to void the contract due to the newslettergate. The $2,000,000. was the compromise to keep from having to pay the $8,000,000. Either way, I think it will be out tomorrow since newshounds will not let this story lay silent for the next 3 weeks.
not that it matters but Franchione's defensive coordinator
at A&M was at one time a coach at SMU C-ya @ Milos!
I think we could do much better than Fran. I think he's wrong for the school. His record has done nothing but sink the last few years. I'd hate to shell out the kind of cash that the new coach will bring to continue that trend. And that is exactly what I think would happen. I'm all for Bowden, Barnett, or Applewhite. I don't know much about Gill, except that my brother has thought he'd be perfect for SMU for some time. I just don't want Fran!
