Most of their fans would prefer the Big XII to Big East.

Agreed about football though.

Memphis adds basketball and a media market that is otherwise sold to the SEC. It's not much, but what do the other options add?

BYU - good sports and decent following, but won't play on Sundays
CSU - Marginal part of Denver market, but sports programs are bad
New Mexico - good basketball, but NM media market is almost nothing and football is terrible.

Then you get into the options that just aren't happening unless UT and A&M leave the conference and it needs to pick up the Metroplex and Houston in some form or fashion, which are TCU, SMU, Rice, and Houston.

Air Force is another strong option that is no often suggested. Not only does Air Force bring part of the Colorado market, but also a national following of American veterans.

I agree about Air Force and hope that SMU can somehow align themselves with Air Force at some point in time.

No go on Air force to big conference.....

What top teams want to prepare every year for 1 week to play against option offense that can beat them???

I was never a fan of the Magnolia Conference (southern, privates), which wouldn't have national or TV impact, but the thought of Air Force, Navy and Army as conference mates always appealed to me. They draw crowds and have national appeal, including TV.

Give me those three, plus SMU, TCU, Baylor, Tulane,Tulsa, BYU and an outlier like Hawaii, assuming MWC/Big XII take a big hit and these players are left high and dry.

Highly unlikely, but ND would be welcome, if the Big East kicks them out of other sports and they missed their final chance to join the Big Ten. The result is a conference with national audiences.

No chance of happening, but it has a nice symmetry.

I doubt that would happen, but if you could get Army, Navy, AF and those schools in a conference it would better than if we were in a decimated CUSA and not as good as if we were in a Big XII leftovers scenario.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Missouri walking a tight rope with Big XII members and a little second guessing by Big Ten members, plus the value of a Rutgers?

If conferences were simply looking for another school that they could beat annually, SMU would have gained admission to a BCS conference long ago. In fact, by your logic, during the Bennett years SMU could have named what conference it wanted to join, as suitors would have been knocking down SMU's door in order to get an easy victory.

As this never actually happened, it would seem that winning is actually desirable to major conferences.

It isn't that they want a team they can beat, they simply don't want to prepare for the triple option once a year to possibly lose....

There are plenty of teams out there who bring as much to the table as Air force and play with a standard offense

You are saying that losing is acceptable, but that losing to the triple option is unacceptable. One could make the same argument regarding the run and shoot.

Every time a teams takes the field they might possibly lose. If Air Force is so mighty that they might defeat a team with their offensive strategy, then that is the greatest argument for their worthiness of being included in expansion.

Which teams are you referring to? Who do you consider to be worthy candidates?

You are over thinking....just ask Ohio State if they ever want to schedule Navy OOC ever again...Then ask them if they would like to play them 1 time a year with their BCS bowl riding on figuring out an offense that only 3 teams run in the country...
