coached?

Dude, that is a very assanine and short sighted argument. I could also say, "How many times did June Jones take Rice to a bowl game for the first time in 40 years?". or "How many times did June Jones beat Notre Dame in South Bend?"

I think I have a legitimate question. Yes we are better, but are we $2 million dollars better? 1-11, 7-5, 7-5, phil bennett did a 1-10 and a 6-6, pretty close.....

I personally think if you were going to overpay (AND WE DID), Todd Graham would have given us more bang for the buck.

But keep flaming all you want.

So Shadowman are you related to Graham? I just don't understand the obsession. Bringing SMU to a bowl more impressive then Rice, Division championship, head to head all goes to June. I would love for this team to play N.D. we'd win they sucked this year. When Graham brings a non AQ to a BCS game or wins coach of the year he can be put in the same league as Jones.

Actually, I am not related to Graham, but we did play on the same team, (no more, or you web hounds can figure out who I am!). I do like Todd, but I love SMU much more.

I am just offering my opinion that June is over the hill, looking for a payday, unwilling to change, we walked right into it, like suckers.

My main beef is everyone is so happy about going to bowls twice in two years, but we were 7-5 both years, and just happened to back into the conference championship game.

Believe me, I was cheering as loud as anybody today. but at the end of the day, I feel like June is the wrong hire, not worth the money we paid.

You may disagree and that is fine, but it is a messageboard. I bleed SMU blood, let me express my opinion and lets discuss it intelligently.

SMU will win a lot of games in the Run and Shoot-but I sincerely believe there some truth to the general thesis of the thread. Its a gadget. The Run and Shoot hasn't been a particularly effective offense as far as winning championships at a high level. That's why you don't see this offense at BCS schools or the NFL-you see bits and pieces but its incorporated into a more diverse overall offensive philosophy. But in CUSA against teams like Rice, Tulsa, UTEP and Tulane I'm sure he'll win a lot of games

that might of been to much info already as you all ready out your self as a former mustang. But I wont hunt down your identity (unlessI get bored). every one is entitled to an opinion but not everyon's opinion is correct. yours is incorrect.

Very good point, this offense will have its moments. But I just don't see why June cannot adapt, move it forward.

This is probably about the 5th time I said this in this thread, but there is a reason why no one runs this offense, there are others that are better...Maybe a hybrid that owes a lot of homage to Jones, but still there a better ones.

Look, if it gets us in the C-USA championship game every year, I will be happy. I just feel like we have the money and facilities to do much better.

Okay, shadowman, I'll bite. Not trying to be a June sunshiner here, but I guess I'm having a hard time believing that his offense is so outdated given that he took Hawaii to the Sugar Bowl just four seasons ago.

I might buy that he needs to adjust it to the different talent we have here, but I'm not familiar enough with his offense before and after to guess as to what may/may not have changed. I do know that he's had back-to-back 1000 yard rushers, and he's never had that before, so I have to think he has made at least some adjustments.

Again, when Todd Graham went to Tulsa, they had experienced some success before he got there. So I don't think comparing Tulsa pre-Graham to SMU pre-Jones is a fair assessment.

And being happy to go to two bowls in a row is fine, but I don't think we are all satisfied with this year's performance. You are automatically assuming that everyone is just giddy to be invited to the party, but we're not. We are just acknowledging that we're better off than where we were, but hope to continue to take steps in the right direction.

We're getting there, just look at our recruiting classes and you can see that we are heading in the right direction.

if our offense had been anything but awful today, we would have won C-USA and no one would have a negative word to say about June. Everyone is so quick to jump to conclusions about coaches being over/underrated based off such an incredibly small sample. Give me a break.

Hell, I will give you a bit more...My father was a hillbilly and was born in the Springdale hospital (just outside fayettville) in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. He was VERY tall for his age and actually lettered 3 years for Arkansas in basketball in the late 40's-early 50s. I spent my first 9 years in Little Rock until we moved to Dallas. I was a die hard Razorback fan, but my Dad (bless his heart, not with us anymore), said Son, "we love the Southwest Conference, you go for the team closet to the city we live in. We can still like Arkansas, but SMU is now our team." Well, I jumped all the way in, cheering the Ponies through thick and thin. I was blessed to get to put on the uniform and be a Mustang, even though it was post death penalty, and we were not very good, it was still the proudest moment of my life, to finally be a Mustang.

I love SMU and know we will still have great things ahead. I just personally do not feel June will deliver it.

But one way or another , we will all get there!

You keep bringing up....OMG Todd Graham beat Notre Dame!
Where have you been living?
Unranked Notre Dame won 7 games this year...Tulsa beat them ..oh wow...big deal.
Notre Dame is no power house...
Quit living in the past pretending it's such a big deal to beat them.
Yeah Tulsa beating a lame ND team compares to a Sugar Bowl.
Todd Graham will never see a game like that...well maybe on TV!

The plays are fine it was a slow thinking or slow executing Padron that caused problems.

JJ's teams will be as good as the thought process of the QB.

This is not the run and shoot this year. JJ has grown and used the run (classic football) more than he ever has.
Patron missed 28 points today.
He is young and I hope his reads come faster.
Thanks again to Coach Mason ( So mote it Be) for the D.

your new info not that relavent except it means you played with him on the cardinals because he graduated from poteet pre death penelty in '83 so you could not have over-lapped there. ONe problem is I don't think graham ever made the team just practice squad because he is not listed on their official all time roster, there are 13 SMU alums on their all time roster but I believe they might not list practice squad guys so if you are not one of those 13 I'd have to think of another way to dig and i'm not up for that right now, i found this info in about 30 seconds though the internet rocks

of course i interpreted your comment to play on same team to mean teammates, i just realized you might have just meant you were both alums not teammates, I could still find you but this set back makes me less interested
