right- I was going to add that but you already have. You get dizzy watching an indoor track meet because they are going around in so many circles

while 400 Meters is approximately a trip around a regulation outdoor track

The size he mentioned was an odd size. He said the current coach likes it very much but that when a new coach would be hired that it would be difficult because many do not like the small size track so options will be limited..

interesting discussion of the variation in an NCAA Indoor/outdoor track regulations. UT built a 300 Meter Indoor Track according to this story which they call an "oversized indoor track". That size track would be considered state of the art.

I hope they go with 200m. 300m is just an absurd distance and will make it impossible for us to ever host any meets. We need to either go with 200m or no track and build a state of the art track facility across central in the future and keep the IPF football only.

~300m is a somewhat common and even desired distance for indoor tracks. ie: Kentucky, Washington, Vanderbilt

Here's the key sentence from cited article:

"Cost constraints can result in a larger or smaller track, depending on the facility's primary use. While a 300-meter track is more expensive than a 200-meter track, for schools that are trying to get the most out of one space, a larger track with a turf infield for field sports would be more cost-effective than building two separate facilities. "It's based on the economics of what the university can afford," says Hill. "What you do is try to make a facility truly multipurpose. If I'm going to build an indoor football practice facility, I go with a 300-meter track."

The SEC indoor track meet was held at Kentucky which is around a 300meter track. If there is any inkling of thought that an IPF with a 300m track is substandard and unwanted... then that is the new standard for absurdity, overtaking JJ's "don't want to cross the street" issue.

why are we even worried about a track? We don't have a track team. If I was a potential major donor (which I am not) - I would say I was only interested in donating to it if it is not over priced by having a bunch of crud we will never use. If we are worried a bout how to measure sprinting just put a straight track in there and call it a day.

You guys don't get it. A few track meets would get hundreds upon hundreds of football recruits (track guys) visiting SMU campus for a competition every winter. Only game in town, top notch facility = recruiting gold.

I favor a NASCAR track on campus. Puts us in with the state populous and recruits.

Don't we still have cross country and Women's Track? Plus Indoor and Outdoor track are counted as 2 sports I believe. So that could conceivably benefit 4-5 sports lowering the costs considerably while also supporting football. If we could get Men's Track back count me in-Ron Meyer was ridiculously successful riding on the back of the Track team and vice-versa
