Bobby Chandler, great NFL receiver, would be great addition to the staff if he hadn't been dead for the last 20 years or so.

Maybe June can use him. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: New Staff
He had some decent defenses here though the last two were terrible and his defenses since he left have been terrible as well. Some people on this board are friends with Mason so that's probably why they want him back coaching here. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: New Staff
I'm not a big fan of going back to the past. Just posting what I heard, that there is a conversation. Mason is well liked within the alumni community. Has a lot of respect from former players, and sent a lot of former players to the pros. Very good person, and he loved SMU. "Tallest midget", but he was the hardest working recruiter in June's program towards the end. His defensive schemes were sound. Rarely saw busted coverages like we saw under Bennett or under Van Malone. The teams were well coached. That said, some of his defensive numbers are elevated because June slowed the clock down and shortened the game. The walk of shame, etc. He is a good personality fit with Sonny, but I don't think he would excite recruits. Wouldn't provide the buzz. I thought he struggled to backfill hires after coaches left. His LB hire wasn't good. Wouldn't be my first choice, but I do like the guy. FWIW - Badejo would be prototype outside 3-4 backer. And Gary's best position might be DE in a 3 man front.
Re: New StaffSonny just hired David Gru as an assistant coach. His profile page states WR coach, unconfirmed. News 24-7, free.
Re: New StaffLooks like he has been a player at La Tech and with Dykes at Cal and TCU.

Re: New StaffWR under Dykes from 2010-12
originally from California followed Dykes to Cal as a Graduate Assistant transitioning to Quality Control from 2013-2016 followed Dykes to TCU as Quality Control Assistant in 2017 now follows Dykes to SMU obvious mentor situation like Craddock/Fry at Clemson Last edited by Stallion on Sat Dec 16, 2017 3:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: New StaffLooks like The currentl head coach may not want to sign all the players on the early signing date that committed to CM. Good move. They can then reevaluate those other players they did not want to sign early.
Adam Grosbard @AdamGrosbard Can't speak for other schools, but Dykes said SMU doesn't necessarily want to sign everyone immediately because they don't want to rush anyone into such a big decision. Wants to build the relationship if that's what the kid wants to do. #HammerDown
Re: New Staff@BruceFeldmanCFB: SOURCE: #SMU’s Bobby Kennedy is expected to join the #Stanford staff as the new WR coach.
Well that was quick. See ya Pony up!
Re: New StaffI sure like to see DC announcement and related coaches. We really need someone with a proven track record that makes defenses better especially if we can get one that can hold P5 teams.

Re: New StaffHCSD has been on board almost a month now and very little to see as far as adding significant staff. I hope he recruits players better than he recruits staff or we could be in real trouble. Most coaching staffs are very busy speaking with h.s. coaches etc. during this dead period.
