I know that you all watch college football and pro football for that matter. We are no different from than other programs in how they continuously change uniforms, helmets etc. The days of one uniform are gone and will not come back as long as schools take the money from the uniform companies and continue to sell the latest version. I understand the "good old days syndrome" that goes on and would like to see us in school colors but understand that we need to do "what the players" and more importantly what the recruits like. I agree that it is a stretch to call it supporting the Armed Forces, but it does sound better than we are wearing black to sell more merchandise and to keep our uniform supplier happy.

Take a look at any university athletic budget and you will see why the uniform changing trend is not going to go away.

I find it amazing that anyone would neglect a University's traditions for some quick $$$$.

All the "Best Uniforms" ratings always go to those who wear Traditional Unis in their school colors.

No one wants USC to change and guess what? They DON'T!

BTW I thought Dallas was going to be warmer than it is. I'm not use to this 40 degree and below stuff.

Wearing my mink every day and really look poofy for Texas!

I have no problem with changing uniforms...problem occurs when you can't use the 3 colors we have in innovative ways....

I do not mind the black unis for a game if that happens. I do not like being asked not to wear my school colors, and worse to wear the color of the competition. So I will not.

You follow SC which is one of the few athletic programs that probably turns a profit. The rest need to get creative. It is what comes with paying coaches multi million dollar contracts, national recruiting budgets, top notch facilities and taking sponsor money. You don't have to like it, but it is not too hard to understand why it happens.

We will be lucky to break even on a black out....wait a year find all this stuff for cost on clearance rack on the side of B&N....

Maybe we need to go back to the basics to make money...i.e. winning and putting all this effort into changing traditions towards exposing the program....

Just a thought

I personally have no problem with the school breaking out special uniforms for different occasions, but I would prefer for them to use our school colors in doing so. In fact, if you look at most (not all) of the Nike Pro Combat uniforms, they are a new look with the team's traditional colors. As for the NFL, whenever a team changes uniforms, it is usually for a throw back look which still ties into the team's history. Even with all of this said, while I would still disagree with the idea of a black jersey for SMU for any game, I would not have nearly as much of a problem if it did not happen to be the primary color of our opponent.

The most important thing this week is for The Mustangs to get another win and have loud and supportive fans in the stands... GO SMU, BEAT ARMY!

So if we are in black...Army will be in what - the camo? That would be the only reason I can think of to do all this...if we can see the camo uni's.

mrydel is right. Duke went through the same thing about black uniforms (although in basketball of course, no one cares that in football Duke has simply copied the Indianapolis Colts) and the players love it, so end of story. BUT ... never, not once in the history of Cameron Indoor Stadium did anyone tell the fans that they should wear black to support Duke. That's the unfortunate part, even if it was against a school with, say, ridiculous, baby blue colors and not for a game against the Black Knights.
