This is the point. No one who is annoyed at the lei thing is seriously asking June to wear a stetson, or boots, or seersucker, or a white sundress. All we are asking is that if "traditions" and "respect" are so important and sacred, that June shows us that it's not just Hawaii traditions he respects. I generally try to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it is almost as if June has intentionally fostered a perception that he just doesn't really give a crap about SMU, its fans, its history, or its traditions, and the lei is just one more thing to add to the list of "f-- you" type actions.
meh, given the choice I'd rather win.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

I office by Anderson High School here in Austin and I am looking out the window at a kid taking the biggest bong hit I have ever seen anyone take. Quite impressive.

Not sure why there has to be an either/or. But glad to hear it was explained at the luncheon. Mom was in town and had other plans for lunch, so I could not attend.

June only wears the lei when his friends from Hawaii come in and bring him one. It's a sign of respect to those guys. They fly in from the islands and have a fresh one made for him and several smaller ones for his coaching staff.
A cowboy hat would look silly. Unless he was at another job and we gave him the cowboy hat to wear.
The lei kicks [deleted], because he is showing respect for where he came from while kicking backside at where he is now. I love that about him. KEEP THE LEI!!!!
And, no -- he doesn't just wear a lei randomly. Seriously, folks fly in from Hawaii and give him (as I said), and his coaching staff, leis. Fresh. Real flowers and plants from Hawaii. I think it's a massively cool think that June and the coaches wear them. Such a sign of respect.
Yeah, it's ridiculous in Dallas, Texas. But June doesn't give a [blank]. And that's why we have him as a coach. He's his own guy. SMU sucked for 20 years? "Meh. I'll got to Texas and show 'em how it's done! .... while wearing a lei."
Can't say I am crazy about the lei either, but this is an excellent response. I do know this....nobody would fly 4,000 miles to give me some flowers.
Thanks SoCal... I agree that the lei is ridiculous... but that's the point, "I do what it is that I do." -- not a direct June Jones quote but that's his mindset. And I'll take the wins and having the best Mustang team since the 80s.

I am with you Thad. I'll take the wins. June is bringing the program back strong. Look at the video I posted from Robert Lewis. It is because of June and his staff that a kid like this even thinks about SMU. Because of June we (so far) get a kid like Printz. I mean really...lay off the lei. And besides, who doesn't like a good...
Go Ponies!
