Does he make chicken every night?
Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMUI keep hearing about 3 consecutive bowl games since Death Penalty. For the record, in 1987 there were 18 bowl games...now there are 35(and we are in the #32??).
I would argue you have to work real hard to not make a bowl these days. Secondly, June obviously doesn't understand or care about the SMU culture. Right or wrong....he is the guy we invited to the dance. If he is the wrong guy...it's our fault...not his. __________________________________________________

We musta been working our @sses off for the 25 years before he got here.... I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMUI get tired just thinking about the last 25...
On the field?...bloody. In the stands?...no [deleted] left. __________________________________________________

Well, it hurts all of us to think about it, but it's where we came from when Jones got here. And if Jones leaves, we got two alternatives: keep trying or hang it up. I'm in the keep trying camp. Maybe if we can keep the post-season streak alive, fans will eventually come back. If not, then no coach is going to want to stay here for very long. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMUI'm in the "keep trying" camp also.
But we are in very dangerous territory. June leaves...screwed. Orsini leaves...I can't even think about it. June stays?...regardless of record...he has offended, bored, and turned off so many SMU alums...I think stadium stays empty. But then, I have read so many good marketing and social networking ideas on this blog. Too bad SMU athletics isn't interested. It's fixable. __________________________________________________

Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMUHow many winning seasons did we have from 1987 until June's arrival?
Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMU
How do you know we didn't have a lot of BCS coaches and coordinators calling Orsini when they found out JJ was interviewing. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMUI know nothing.
I just fear we are in dangerous territory. If we could snag a good coach in time to save recruiting class...great. My .02 is June needs to be transitioned out... __________________________________________________

Re: June Jones has forever changed his image at SMU
This point is certainly valid, but here's the thing: if you accept that the talent is better now, the recruiting ability is enhanced, and the facilities/desire to be "big time" is in place among the administration, then the next thing you focus on is putting fans in the stands. The timing of this ASU meeting alienates a whole lot of people (not just recruits); how does a coach convince alums and casual fans that his program is worth coming out to see if he is projecting an image that he doesn't believe it himself? I appreciate what he has done for us, but if his heart is not in taking it to the next level then he should leave. Saying "the fan support is the problem" and then essentially flipping them the bird by talking to another school on our biggest recruiting weekend (which could hamstring a program just barely limping by driving those guys off) is poor form. He has used this ploy to gain leverage before, but he did it particularly badly this time and it sure as hell isn't going to solve obvious fan support issues. Plus, I just have to say that the fact that I agree with Mitch on this has put me in a dark, scary place. I need to curl up in a corner someplace and rock slowly for a while now.
