Oh my goodness I forgot about Joe Haering! Anyone that ever says June isn't completely to blame for abdicating 50% of his job duties need only say two words: Joe Haering.

Why can't Turner just do what is in the best interest of SMU? He shouldn't be offered additional money to do his job. Someone needs to get the ball rolling, now!

Exactly. Get him and Phillips and all of his incompetent, arrogant cronies away from the players immediately. The only reason we keep Mason as an interim HC is because I actually think he dislikes Jones, would toss the R&S out the window immediately, and the kids would play hard for him the rest of the season.

Take a poll of the players and parents and I would bet 100% would agree with Jones immediate dismissal.

It's that bad folks. Who cares about freakin community outreach, his outreach doesn't even extend from his office to his own locker room! I can only imagine the vitriol and negativity that will accompany our next home game if we have to sit through another 60-0 beatdown with June on the sidelines, in his black shirt, expressionless, arms crossed, calling the same 2 yard outs and draw plays!

ASU redux....does June get away with it again?

Are you that close to the players that you know the players want Jones gone, or is that just conjecture?

Go sit next to the parents section during the next game and listen to the type of comments that are becoming more and more vocal with each game. Watch as they shake their heads in disgust after every 3 yard out on 3rd and seven. This whole situation is poison and these kids need a clear leader with discipline and direction. They are begging for it. Everybody that says this thing is hopeless and its going to take 3-5 years to rebuild is full of crap. As a hypothetical, if THIS current team was led by Larry Coker or Dan McCarney, and incorporated the best of our offensive personnel into their offensive systems, we could compete for the AAC championship this year! Think I'm out of my mind, I think not.

These are good, talented kids looking for a leader. This thing can be turned around just as quickly as it can sink to 0-12. This I truly believe. I just hope for the psyche of the players, and the reputation of the school, that the powers that be don't let this thing go in the 0-12 direction.

footballdad,
Great insight. Thanks. I hope you email Hart and Turner with your thoughts. Hearing this from an athlete's parent will carry a lot of weight.

Best thing to do is let him know you will cancel all donations to the MC and also any promised donations to his 'unbridled campaign'. He only understands $$$$. If fans can create 'financial chaos' then he will get the idea and just maybe do something.

Will RGT give a crap about football when the 'FIRE JUNE' signs, and booing starts from our own fans in our own stadium on national TV? Highly likely with 2 more blowouts on tap in the next 3 weeks. Will RGT give a crap when the precious SMU name and logo is splashed all over the national sports media as they discuss the unfolding JUNE JONES nightmare at SMU?

Larry Brown gave RGT and SMU a free dose of incredibly positive national media coverage last year. If RGT's not careful, June will have an equally negative effect until the football season is over if they continue to let him hang around.

RGT does care about football. None of you have the responsibility to make the numbers work - we all just sit around and [deleted]. He has to figure out how to pay for it all.

THe question is when is the best time to do this. They were probably already thinking end of season - but now they have to be thinking sooner.

I think the team gets fired up if Mason is handed the reins, and who knows what might happen. They might also be thinking just to let June take the hit of the next three games, and then the change could actually result in a win or two vs throwing Mason into the lions den.

Who knows - but there is no doubt he is gone this year. I am starting to get excited about what happens next since i truly believe we are nothing but upside potential.

So true. LB and the basketball program's rise could have a great positive impact on football. Instead, more of this and football will start to overpower the LB positivity and start having a negative impact on basketball. It is such a simple solution, but it requires Turner to take action, which is why I fear it will not get done until December or January.

if they pull the trigger on JJ this year and hand the program over to Mason, he's made it clear in interviews for HC jobs that he prefers to run the pistol so the question is "do we have the personnel to run the pistol and how long before that system could realistically be implemented?"
It is clear we need a more vertical offense with an actual ground game and utilizing the middle of the field

I can't help but think that RGT is going to have to be pushed screaming and kicking into making a decision to get rid of tiki. How many years has he been here and failed to give any decent level of emphasis to the fball program -10-14-18?

I'd like to get rid of the guy as soon as possible but we've got more time than many are saying

almost all coaching candidates are currently under contract and no school is going to release a head or assistant coach until at least early December. Its not the end of world if he coaches at least until SMU is out of bowl contention. The key is to get someone in here in early December so they can get in here before the dead/quiet period at Christmas through the National Championship, Recruiting is going to be in limbo either way because recruits won't know who their coach is. Either way June is Dead Man Walking

I agree with Stallion except that a lot of us want assurance now that this us going to end. I do not see us making a hire until the carousel begins.

I just hate to go through an 0-12 season because it's pretty clear this team has quit on this coach and the program is a train wreck. Let Mason show what he can do to finish the season and hope to win a few games. An 0-12 finish is not going to help recruiting

consider that if you fire him now you may be setting up Mason winning the job

I want the entire coaching staff gone. Start over

from watching SMU recruiting, I believe Mason is a big part of the SMU golden nugget recruiting philosophy

I have not posted in months. I have been exhausted by the on going argument between firing JJ or keeping him. My faith was shattered that SMU would do what is best for the Students, Athletes or Alumni when they extended JJ last December. After a spectacular PR gaffe, yet again, SMU honored an offer that he sat on for six months. While I'm sure Leigh shopped his client for those six months, there were no takers.

It doesn't matter what we want. It never has. The only thing that matters is what the CoC wants. If they want him gone, he will be gone. If they want him to stay, he will stay. Hart doesn't have the resources (i.e. Cash) to make this decision. The only people that can release the funds to pull the trigger is Turner or one (or more) of the CoC.

My personal feeling is that he should be fired. If football dad is right that JJ has lost the locker room - there is no reason to have him play out the string. That is a recipe for an even worse disaster. I don't think we can ditch the entire offense. We can do a lot of simplification from week to week, but I don't think we can scrap it. If Phillips is also a problem, as called out by football dad, reassign him or terminate him.

IRONIC TWIST: A student from SMU just called asking for money:
Me: Is June Jones still the football coach?
Student: Yes, he is.
Me: Then my donation this year is going to my graduate school alma mater. Please inform who ever you report to not to contact me again until that has changed. Have a nice night and Go Cornell Big Red!
