Based on the old timer retellings, I'd say they were blasting sound as loud as possible with the line of scrimmage right in front of them - disrupting the ability to hear signals.

I seem to remember the last time this came up, that it has something to do with being warned. I think in that 1986 situation, the Mustang Band had been warned already not to do it, and then was penalized as soon as it happened again. You can see the ref's quick reaction to it. I don't know how you get someone to "warn" the Baylor/TCU/UNT band when they do it without having HCCM himself calling the ref over.

During the game Friday night after having witnessed it in the past and then again during this most recent game, I made the statement that the next time Baylor comes to Ford, the week before the game, I will personally notify the appropriate head of officiating that will be handling the game. I am doing it more for my own ears than the team but let's just say it is for the team. So at my age, I will need someone to take the baton should I pass on prior to Baylors next visit to Ford.

Peruna can be played very quickly if the band is willing.

The answer is simple. Give them fewer tickets next time we play them in Dallas (say 20) all in a row at the top of the endzone. tell them flat out it is due to their inability to follow simple sportsmanship.

Good luck sir.

Texas has said they are going to charge the Texas Tech band members for tickets to their game. $100 each.

I've heard the following before, it might be true: to get the penalty called, the opposing team must inform the referee that the sounds are interfering with the signals and the referee will then issue a warning. If it happens again, the penalty can be called.

IIRC a few years ago, SMU was warned for playing music over the PA system that interfered with signals. The resulting boos when the warning was announced was the loudest Ford got all night.

I have heard the same. The team has to complain first.
