define "get it done"

Charleston in my mind "get it done" at a school like Arkansas would be to basically every year appear at least part of the season in the Top 20, and appear even Top 10 occasionally, and regularly be one of the top 3 teams in the SEC West. Maybe about like TCU has done in the Big 12? Minimum of 9 wins almost every year. 500 ball or barely above 500 ball isn't going to cut it as "getting it done" is it?

Most fans would be happy to just average 7-8 wins a year with the occasional 10 win season and a 4-5 win season in down years is understandable as long as it doesn't become a string of them together.

Mississippi State for example used to be the worst program in the West by far but they have now been to 9 straight bowl games. Even if they only win 10 games a couple of times a decade it would be nice to be consistently average-above average instead of one of the worst P5 programs like we are right now. Nutt was about as average as you can get and we got bored with it so we hired Petrino who elevated the expectations even more, then a steady decline since then makes us want to be back at the level Nutt had us at again. It's all cyclical lol.

gohogs14.....I can certainly empathize....and you obviously know 1000 times more than I do about the Hogs....but I don't think 7 wins would be enough....sure right now you'd love 7 wins vs whats ya got....but after a few seasons of Full Tilt Boogie 7 win seasons I think expectations would rise....they always do. I guess Chad is not in the Top 25 of highest paid coaches? Plus you are still paying Bret Bielema and had to pay SMU to get Morris? So really the cost of Chad Morris to Ark is much higher than his salary?

The problem is it’s just so competitive in the SEC.

chadster was hired in large part due to his used car salesmen abilities, but if you look at what he’s accomplished in recruiting, it’s only been so-so by SEC & Arky standards.

Over the past 10 years, absent 1 year, Arkansas recruiting classes always ranked in the 20’s nationally, but in the lower half of the SEC.

chadster’s 1st class was ranked 23rd nationally and 10th in SEC. His current class is ranked 28th nationally and 12th in SEC.

So for him to succeed, it’s going to require coaching, and the verdict is very much out on that one.

And as we’ve witnessed time and time again at SMU, there is a window after which that new car smell leaves. Will SEC-type recruits really want to go to a school that can’t defeat SJS at home?

gohogs, when your OOC schedule includes:

Eastern Illinois
Colorado St (twice)
Portland St
NTSU
San Jose St
Tulsa
Western Kentucky

I’m not as certain that most fans would be happy with 7-8 wins a year.

Well no but these last two years were an anomaly in the schedule because Michigan backed out of a home/home too late for us to replace them. Have Notre Dame and Texas in the next few years.

Kinda sucks for Morris because theoretically the team could improve but since the schedule gets harder it might not matter. Georgia rotates on the schedule from the east in 2021 if he's even still here by then.

Exactly. Reason #10 Stallion won't show his face anymore is because he perpetuated the 'Morris is a great recruiter' myth, he needs at least 4 - 5 years to get his guys in there as part of a 'total rebuild', and then the Championships will follow.

He was such a great recruiter that Ben Hicks would have been his starter this year, he would have been a disaster again, and the team would have been lucky to play .500 ball.

Instead, Sonny comes in, sees the cupboard is bare, runs a bunch of Morris guys off, adds a ton of transfers and Buechele, and within 2 years has completely rebuilt and transformed the team.

Yes Stallion, please educate all of us morons on how recruiting and rebuilding works again.......

Am I a pig fan? No.

But would it kill me to see Arky knock off A&M?

LOL

HELL NO

I mean, they gave Chad millions and Hicks a scholarship. Might as well get somethin' for their money

Hicks played well. Last pass dropped. He deserved a W.

Hicks had a lot of bad passes. That run he had at the end though was so uncharacteristic of him. Normally he slides when someone is like 10 yards away from him.

Hicks looks bad so Starkel comes in and looks good, then Starkel starts sucking and Hicks doesn’t look that bad.

Not sure where to go from here at QB if you’re Morris.
