Cole Beasley making newsModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Cole Beasley making newsMy post about Fauci had nothing to do with politics. Zero. The fact that it does call into question progressive dogma is incidental.
Re: Cole Beasley making news
This is the equivalent of calling people names. It derives from the lack of an actual argument, and is a juvenile fallback that most of us left behind in the sixth grade.
Re: Cole Beasley making newsPolicy makers should target educating those less educated Americans. There’s a clear difference in those vaccinated with college degrees vs no college. Researchers with the Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR) at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences found that more than 3 out of 4 (76%) U.S. adults with at least a bachelor’s degree have already been vaccinated or plan to be, compared to just over half (53%) of those without a college degree.
Go by the facts not myths. Listen to medical experts. Also don’t make this political because many of these comments clearly suggest they are. https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1004021488 Surgeon General Vivek Murthy MURTHY: We know that about two-thirds of people who are not vaccinated right now either believe some of the commonly-held myths that are out there or think they might be true. They're not sure. And some of those myths include that you don't need to get the COVID vaccine if you've already had COVID. The answer is you actually absolutely do because the immunity that you get from natural infection is not nearly as robust, especially against the new variants. There are also some myths out there that you can get COVID from the vaccine itself, which is absolutely not true. MURTHY: Well, again, look. I know that the response to the pandemic, and if you look over the last year and a half, has suffered from politicization. And again, the way we deal with that is we, No. 1, trying to make sure people have access to accurate scientific information. And second, we make sure that that information is delivered through people they trust. And we just got to continue down that pathway. It's - we are actually making progress. Even when you look at not just the number of people vaccinated, when you look at vaccine confidence numbers, they are edging up - not nearly as fast, of course, as we would like, but they are moving in the right direction.
Re: Cole Beasley making news
You constantly talk about name-calling and virtue signaling but constantly do so yourself calling the people you disagree with bullies and know-it alls. You never called out OTP who said the people who opted for the vaccine "don't know chit" so you need to do some growing up yourself and take a look in the mirror. Anti-vaxxer is not necessarily derogatory. What else do you call people who actively campaign against the merits of vaccines? Your virtue signaling is tiresome as you often remark how you are above it all when your often prove otherwise with your own form of subtle name-calling.

Re: Cole Beasley making news
It is condescending and incorrect to try to make this an intelligence test. It is not. And sometimes people without degrees have more common sense than the so called educated. There are plenty of completely valid reasons to pass on the vaccine, especially if you are young and healthy. What is irrefutable is that we don't have the normal data one has it their disposal on these vaccines. They are probably fine - but the two most commonly used vaccines are both protein spiking vaccines and carry the extra risk of never having been widely used before. Also they are NOT FDA approved. Pretty sure they will be but they are not yet. When you take into consideration that those at greatest risk are either now vaccinated or are clearly choosing not to be - it feels like a completely rational decision to wait further and see if there are any negative effects that we don't know about today - the vaccine has been utilized only about 6 months. New case numbers are at rock bottom and deaths are close to zero. Treatments for Covid are more effective than ever, particularly if you are not obese. Our family will waiting a bit longer on this one - and that is from someone who has taken plenty of well documented and tested vaccines.
Re: Cole Beasley making newsVery well stated gostang. I am not saying never, but just not now.

Re: Cole Beasley making newsThe notion that the college educated make better decisions or have better sense than the non-college educated is absurd and bizarre in addition to being just plain wrong. Intelligence and education have no correlation except that education often stunts and interferes with intelligence.
A long tradition of existence.
Re: Cole Beasley making newsSMU tuition was truly the biggest waste of money for a lot of people.
Re: Cole Beasley making newsThe comment about policy makers didn’t come from me but from a study (one based on facts and data) that concluded that U.S. adults with higher education are significantly more likely to get a COVID-19 vaccination and to believe in the vaccine’s safety and efficacy.
It’s not condescending or arrogant. What is arrogant is for those that believe they know more than the medical professionals, including the head of the NIAID and/or the US surgeon general, on the efficacy and benefits of the vaccine. No one cares if your decision only impacts you but sometimes we have to think bigger and act as a good corporate citizen in terms of what is best for the society even if that means getting a few shots…

Re: Cole Beasley making news
Actually, there has been nothing EVER studied as much, in depth, as Covid and these vaccines. With the Delta variant, I implore everyone to get vaccinated. What we are seeing in Israel is that it has a much higher tendency to infect kids than the original variants, and the impacts are way more severe on kids than they were before. Which is why Israel, even though they have a good percentage of the adult population vaccinated, is starting to consider shutting down again. That variant is a really good reason to reconsider decisions you had previously made. If adults get vaccinated it helps take more people out of the population that could potentially spread it to the kids. I am enjoying everything being back open again. In the interest of keeping things open in the face of this new variant, I hope that you and others will reconsider.
Re: Cole Beasley making newsRegarding Covid Vaccines: My tenant in my garage apartment is a 35yo divorced father of two, union electrician (no college) and is hesitant about getting the vaccine. His POV is that there is no way to know the long term effects of the RNA vaccines since they haven't been around long enough. To his benefit, he is young and healthy and probably would not die from Covid. IMHO, we should be concerned with number of deaths not cases of the disease anyway. He worked thru the shut down and luckily no one on his team got the disease. He could have been asymptomatic and had it already. I am older and got the vaccination ASAP to protect Myself.
My point is throwing around these judgements of those who choose not to be vaccinated is unfortunate and possibly wrong headed. And has become Political fodder. Any rational advice on how to convince him to vaccinate would be appreciated.
Re: Cole Beasley making newsBottom line in this whole debate is that fear cuts both ways. Some are afraid of getting Covid or having it spread because not everyone is rushing to get vaccinated. Others fear what the vaccine itself might do to them. For some, refusal to be vaccinated might just be a political statement.
Getting back to the reason I posted this to begin with, for whatever reason Cole is one who does not want to take the shot and is willing to "play for free" (suspecting he would be heavily fined?) or retire prematurely because he is not willing to play by the rules the players union appears to have agreed to which will require unvaccinated players to still wear masks during travel, socially distance, be tested more frequently, etc... I've been vaccinated but still experience situations where I'm asked to wear a mask or socially distance and personally I don't have a problem with that. I don't like the attack on Cole as "ignorant". Selfish perhaps, but there is a difference between ignorance and selfishness on this issue. As I've seen with comments on this thread, there are several who have chosen not to be vaccinated, but it appears they remain considerate of others in having made that decision.
