Here is what Sonny can still achieve at SMU, using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-based), for the next three years:

1. Conference championship
2. Increased attendance (e.g. average 25K, at least 30K twice per season)
3. Born and raised recruits out of high school, not just transfers
4. Finish the season ranked
5. Bowl victories
6. NY6 bowl
7. P5 invitation

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Agreed!

Besides coaches and casual fans being shocked at what Ford looks like in many 2nd halfs, whether we are winning or losing, attendance has to have a major impact on recruiting as well.

Remembering the days of a packed Moody with Larry Brown took it to a whole new level and made it a "must attend" EVENT!

Can this (see below) ever happen year after year at a packed FORD?

I've seen coaches bolt when they thought their rosters were vulnerable to a let down and SMU will lose key LBs and OL but I think this roster is deep enough to weather that storm, so I still come back to whether Sonny believes he is the guy who can build and sustain a Top 25 caliber program that will someday make Ford the place to be like Moody became under LB. If/when that happens, I hope our A.D. doesn't screw it up with another money grab reseat!

great video- back to the good ol' LB days. and that is before little rickey ran him off, destroyed the mob, chased off fans with multiple re-seats and wiped out the program by keeping an inept, incompetent coach.
Check what Moody looked like the last couple of years (yes, pre-covid) vs this video.
Not sure we will get 25k-30k in Ford until we have a new AD. and start playing teams that generate interest. IMO UTSA, Denton community college, Charlotte and UAB are not going to do it.

UNT & UTSA will have a good shot at drawing 25k to Ford in future years assuming SMU can remain a Top 25 caliber program. Doubt Rice will bring nearly as many as the larger public schools. UTEP and Houston were the best draws in years we played both of them at Ford

NTCC very rarely drives attendance up. Their folks don't care and our side really doesn't care. UTSA is unique and I think will generate interest given their rise in prominence.

I know you can't stomach UNT but their games at Ford in 2015 & 2017 drew about 25k which was more than any of our AAC opponents. They actually drew more than both TCU and Houston did in 2018. I'm hopeful UTSA will draw as well as UTEP used to.

Offers so far from Tulane, Charlotte, W. Kentucky and # 1 ranked FCS Sam Houston. Time will tell how big men will develop.
