To me the A&M-Fran issue comes down to Fran not wanting to have to mitigate his damages by reducing his buyout by whatever SMU (or whever hires him next) pays him.

Let me tell you something. As far as I'm concerned, Saban is a scumbag, not because he left LSU for the NFL (on Christmas Day nonetheless), but b/c of the way he left LSU and his subsequent demonstrated lack of class. LSU followed Saban's lead giving him everything he wanted in terms of facilities, stadium, personnel, etc. and the entire state of Louisiana accepted him as one of its own. (You wouldn't understand, and it's not easy to explain to a non-Louisianian.) Then, after being made the highest paid college coach and repeatedly denying he would leave, Saban left LSU in a lurch to scramble to find a quality HC and staff after recruiting was effectively over. I suppose to make himself feel better, he claimed it was not about the money, but about his personal challenge. (I guess he forgot about this personal challenge when he left Miami 2 years later.)

At any rate, we all know what happens from there. All about the benjamins. The rock star goes to Bama and starts overtly bashing LSU's program, Les Miles and even the people of Louisiana all the while trying to steal LSU commits. Well, I was in Tuscaloosa at the game Saturday night, and I look forward to his visit next year.

I'm not faulting Franchione for leaving TCU or Alabama. You're right...a lot of coaches leave for greener pastures. I am faulting Franchione for the way he left Alabama and the lack of integrity and discretion he's shown in each of his stops. He is also a pompous A-hole that lacks credibility and true success. More sizzle than steak. Love the analogy. He may have had recruiting and program success when no one knew about his integrity, but you'd have a hard time convincing me to send my son to his program nowadays. Also, where is the demonstrated success at aTm in the last few years? Why do you think aTm fans wants him gone? You may like him and that's your opinion. I don't and that's mine.

Sorry for the rant, but you don't know d!ck about d!ck. Someone disagrees with you, and so like a child you try to defame them and mock them. I have respected your opinions, but you need to learn to respect others' opinions as well.

nice work getting tickets to that one. LSU season ticket holders made 33,000 requests for tickets to that game...

Yeah, only 9K out of 33K got tix. Well worth the trip! :D

I like how somebody has a source that is a player who sawy Fran at SMU's facilities on Sunday. When it was pointed out that they had a game, the guy said it might have been a player that did not travel. Except, who was Fran meeting with? Orsini was in Houston.

Please tell me how stealing LSU's Coach is any different from LSU stealing Oklahoma State's Coach. You are right I don't understand. Think its a pretty childish response and intellectually indefensible position.

Fran will go BCS not us

Postby Sam I Am » Mon Nov 05, 2007 11:14 pm

The Ag's board is growling like we did before the Tulsa game. Why they would wish Fran on SMU, I don't know. Guess they never forgave our yell leaders from getting on the Kyle field turf. If fran goes, he will seek a BCS school. Baylor, Nebraska, and maybe Note Dame will get the big names before we do. Besides, Fran would cost too much for the ponies to afford. Orsini will do the right thing, just like he did with Doh.

Get this through your thick skull: I don't fault Saban for leaving to go to Miami. It was the WAY he left and then MORE SO his subsequent decision to abandon his b.s. "personal goal" for the $$$ along with the other crap I mentioned. He has demonstrated in the last year that he is a classless liar. Hell, I attended the Saints/Dolphins game in Tiger Stadium after Katrina and cheered Saban when he came onto the field.

To me Saban's departure from Michigan State to LSU was no diffferent from his departure from LSU to Miami. In fact, there is more merit in making the jump from LSU to the Dolphins.

College Football: A&M planning to part ways with Franchione

COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M officials have determined that embattled football coach Dennis Franchione will not be retained next year, multiple sources at the school have told the Express-News.

A&M officials plan to seek a buyout agreement with Franchione, but athletic department and administration sources, while confirming plans to change coaches, say it is not clear how far those negotiations have gone. The Aggies have two games remaining – a road contest against Missouri on Saturday and a home game against Texas on Nov. 23.

A&M officials on Monday refuted on-line reports from two media outlets that a buyout agreement was imminent. CBS Sportsline went so far as to say that a deal had been reached, but the report was later amended to say that the two sides were merely on the verge of a deal.

Still, sources confirmed to the Express-News, the school has resolved to sever its ties with Franchione, who barely three weeks ago received a stern admonishment from A&M athletic director Bill Byrne for his role in a secret booster newsletter for which he collected thousands of dollars over four years.

Franchione’s failure to report the income was cited as an NCAA rules violation and now looms as a major part of A&M’s buyout strategy, sources say. Indications are that the Aggies, citing breach of contract, will propose a buyout figure far below the $8.5 million to which Franchione would otherwise be entitled.

The Express-News disclosed the existence of the newsletter in an article on Sept. 28. The school launched an investigation that, on Oct. 11, resulted in Franchione being admonished and the school’s announcement of rules violations.

He left for a better position and for more money - like anyone in any job would do. Jeez, these over emotional fans that think just becasue someone coaches football for a living they should do everything for the same emotional reasons fans do crack up to me. Its immature.

Fran could have at least notified his players at Alabama that he was leaving.......didn't have to explain why....but at least tell your players....

Fraud ran A&M into the ground and doesn't get along with fans. He jerked around TCU and Alabama. He's so SMUg, that I guess he might work at SMU. Picking him because he can help '08 recruiting??? Please! That's also why you keep assistants in place. He recruited very well at A&M but hasn't developed his players much at all. Do you think JW is excited about the prospect of hiring Fraud? Just look at Reggie McNeal and Stephen McGee.

I guess this is a "safe" pick because it's a big name, but I can't believe you want someone else's castoffs right away. At least O'Leary and Price had indiscretions that caused them to lose their jobs and not bad performance.
