USC, and Miami are examples of what determined private schools with sustained resources invested in football can do that schools in rural areas can't. No matter how much Texas Tech tries, their potential is capped. I think SMU needs to also consider lowering its tuition and increase its enrollment? Maybe by 10,000, 5k of which had to come from Texas. One of the huge issues is the admission of all of these out of state kids, who come for four years, and then leave. It's what killed Tulane.

Lowering tuition? Interesting idea but I don't think so.

Believe it or not, New Orleans could and still can provide. Tulane's endowment still trumps SMU, although I'm sure the recent lack of support has allowed SMU to catch up. There are still people in New Orleans who have the deep old pockets that can rival the big Dallas nuevo dinero. That's Right. Problem is, all their cash goes to LSU because their kid got denied by an admissions director from Brooklyn.

Fine, increase the tuition for your kid, but let more kids in for free. Students who pay full tuition now are subsidizing other students, whether they realize it or not. It's BS charity with other peoples money, but it's the system. I'm sorry it doesn't cost smu 45k a year to educate one student. At some point, someone is going to blow the whistle and revolt against these schools for the greatest theft of the last 50 years.

Tulane's endowment is not bigger than SMU's

Like I said, maybe SMU recently caught them. But for the 20th century, SMU was small time compared to Tulane. Yes, times change.

Not sure about that- back about ten years ago when I was looking at colleges I remember reading that Tulane had dipped into their endowment for capital spending years before but that recent (at the time) fundraising had improved their financial status. I think SMU has been out ahead of Tulane on that front for awhile...

Where are you getting your info from regarding "all of these out of state kids coming for 4 years and leaving". You make that up? Oh. As for lowering tuition. The reason so many kids from southern Cali come to smu is bc their parents see it as a bargain compared to USC.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I have seen zero facts to back up any of your arguments Jutah.

The worst thing we could do is lower our standards just to get more people to go to football games.

Dutch, your living in fantasy land. If majority stayed in Dallas, we wouldn't struggle to fill ford. I disagree with the argument a winning team will bring the fans (Tulane went 12-0 in 98', didn't increase their fan base), play better teams etc..... It's all about having a connection with the university, and if the population is not there, it's just not there. For example, if I live in Houston, why would I ever go to a Rice game given I didn't go to school there? Even if they are playing Texas and Michael Vick's cousin is the starting QB for Rice. I could care less about both schools. Better yet, if I'm from Houston, why would I go? The only way to become a Dallas team, is to have a majority Dallas students like they did many years ago. Taking kids from Long Island in bulk, brings nothing to the table. Might as well call ourselves the Tulane of Texas if that's the direction we want to go. It's one or the other. Giving away free tickets to school kids doesn't help either.
