Latest coaching rumorsModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Latest coaching rumorsNot only do you look at his 15 years of winning at Texas, but the guy literally took a program that was mired in mediocrity and apathy (sound familiar?) and made them into a national powerhouse that sold out every game at DKR. My uncle was a Texas alum and I remember going to games down there in the mid 90's and being able to sit pretty much wherever you wanted. Mack Brown changed all of that. He rejuvenated the fans, school, and alumni and made Texas football relevant again. Landing a coach of his caliber would be an incredible moment for SMU and signal our return to relevance.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Latest coaching rumors
don't forget why he got the UT job. he did the same thing at UNC. they weren't winning the conf, but after a couple rough years (with the previous coach's players) he got them up into the top 25 for 4 years in a row. at UNC. a school that ONLY cares about one sport. that's a miracle. even our lord and savior Juneses couldn't crack the top 25. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Latest coaching rumorsYou can also dig a little deeper at what he accomplished at a Bball school in UNC. It was pretty amazing. That's probably more in line with where we are today. Hell, we maybe even further along than UNC prior to Mack and in an easier conference, won't have to play FSU of the 90s every year.
Lumping Mack in with all retread coaches is ridiculous. Dutch laid out his resume at UT pretty well. Find another coach available with that kind of resume. SMT and I are on the same page. Morris then Mack would be my preference. But I know very little (more lucky than good), so that's not worth much.
Re: Latest coaching rumorsHe would get the stands full and that is half our problem. He would also be like LB in that every word out of his mouth would be promoting SMU.
Even in his roughest time at UT you never saw the undercutting stories you saw at SMU with June. He kept the dirty laundry out if the public eye. The guy knows how to do PR. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Latest coaching rumorsMack Brown's Recruiting Pitch:
1) I am Mack Brown. Everybody knows who I am. 2) I am going to hire a great young staff just like Larry Brown did. We are going to pack Ford like the Mustang BB team packs Moody. 3) You get to live in Dallas and attend SMU. 4) In 2018, we are going to sweep our OOC schedule including a road game at Michigan, win the AAC Championship, and get into the playoffs. If you don't believe me, go play for TCU and play for 4th place in the Big 12. 5) Do you want to play for championships and get an education at a great university in a great city? Yes. Sign on the dotted line. Last edited by Digetydog on Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:14 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: Latest coaching rumors
god, and think how much he would love to do it right in the back yard of all those Regents that had their burnt orange gator skin lucchese boots pushing his arse out the door. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Latest coaching rumors
it would immediately get us national attention again for football. AND more importantly constant local attention. i know a lot has to do with winning, but the "Eyes' of Texas" would be upon us. i bet the Statesman would even do updates on what mack was doing here. and DMN writers would salivate for interviews. and The Ticket already has perfected the fake mack brown. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Latest coaching rumorsJJ did not develop QB's very well here. Outside of VY's overall talent what QB's did Mack Brown develop? I would think that we would be concerned about that area as well in a coach.

Re: Latest coaching rumors
Simms and McCoy were both NFL starters. Both were "developed" by Greg Davis (who will be Mack's first hire when he takes his next job). They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Latest coaching rumors
pass me whatever you're smoking. please. they didn't develop VY at all. they didn't win the championship with him until they stepped back and just let VY be VY - he had just natural physical abilities that they tried for 3 years to contain, when they took off the shackles and let him go do his thang, they won it all. Applewhite? Simms? McCoy? McCoy is only behind Kellen Moore at Boise St. (which doesn't really count b/c they play powder puff league) had to come edit. wouldn't be surprised if he went and grabbed Applewhite to come be the OC/QB coach. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Latest coaching rumorsHC - Mack Brown
Co OC's - Major Applewhite/David Beatty DC - Greg Robinson Boom. Best staff in The American by a freaking mile. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Latest coaching rumorsThe more I think about it, the more I'm coming around on Mack Brown. With a young, talented staff I believe Mack could be very successful at SMU.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Latest coaching rumorsPlenty of room on the bandwagon.
Re: Latest coaching rumors
Applewhite Simms Young McCoy I I think his point was that Mack Brown did a decent job with his QB's until the Gilbert/McCoy 2.0/Ash fiasco set him back. Look at the QB's prior to his tenure. It's not like the Longhorns were sending QB's to the pros: http://texas.247sports.com/Article/All- ... acks-32599 When I was on the 40 Acres, the punter (Gardere) was the best QB on the team!! Do unto others before they do unto you!!
