Ok until you get the hell out on that field and play like they did last year just shut up already.

Back to the original subject:

I thought Coach Bennett sounded great. He sounded like he wanted to suit up and play himself.

And I have to give credit to the guys who did the interview, Brian Estridge and Newy Scruggs. It would have been easy for Estridge (part of the TCU broadcast) to pummel Coach with a bunch of comments about wanting to be like TCU, but if I remember right, he didn't even mention TCU except when discussing the early schedule. I thought the guys did a great job covering a bunch of subjects with Coach, and they clearly had done a little homework before the interview. And more than anything, they listened to what he had to say. If you stuck around after the interview, they talked for a while about Coach, and talked about how much they like him, they admire his energy and dedication, they think he CAN win at SMU (nice to hear among the sea of mocking journalists who spout their opinions without bothering to watch the Ponies play first), and capped it off with a couple of comments about how Coach is in a better situation here than Guy Morriss is in down in Waco (they talked about how we have a better stadium and more compatible opponents -- talent-wise -- and how Coach talks up his program, while Morriss just bitched about a lack of marketing and visibility in Waco, etc. Somehow they overlooked the fact that he also has to live in Waco, which is brutal in and of itself.)

Great job by those guys on ESPN103.3. I don't often listen to their show, but after hearing that interview, I'll listen more. They should bring Coach Bennett on every week (since after all, he's the only college coach in Dallas, and SMU is the only team in town!)

Looking forward to hearing Coach Bennett on their show again.

Thanks, Bubba, for taking the time to expand on the interview, especially for us in the wilderness far from Dallas.

Given our situation, which is admittedly difficult, it is great to a get feel for the Coach and his attitude. That attitude is critical for us, since he has to encourage and challenge a very young group of Mustangs, who have mostly known only defeat. The sky is falling is not a very good way to motivate young men, who have committed to him, their teammates, SMU and us their efforts (hopefully 110+%) and loyality. We owe them so less.

I saw that. I'll wait to dance in the streets until the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches of America Association) poll comes out. Coaches have more of a clue as to who's really good and who's not. Nevertheless, it's good to see the women's team getting some pub - Coach Coss is going to have that team flying in a couple years, if not right away.
