TCU was 6-6 that year. Clearly their worst season in the last six years.

Copeland is a complete moron! Why in the hell are we scheduling teams that we have no realstic chance of beating. Why not schedule a few easier non-conference opponents so we have a change of winning a game before conference play begins? SMU will never have success with these types of schedules. I seriously doubt SMU will even be in Division 1-A by the time the next decade is here with the way things are going. Great job Copeland!
While I don't particularly like the idea of sacrificing the troops for $$$'s (TCU vs Alabama = Kent Waldrup), in this day and age, our front-line guys can compete with theirs, at least in a good year. I really think we could have competed with them in '97 as well. It is the depth that makes competing difficult.
But, nothing will assure a sell-out or a big payday like playing the Aggies. I have one of each, an Aggie and a Mustang. so for me, it is a dream match. And, the Aggies won't be so good next year that we can't play with them. Albert Connell's catch notwithstanding, I still think we beat them in '95. (phantom Canine fumble/, phantom pass interference call.) And they were much better then than now. Finally, there are those in Dallas who wouldn't give two hoots in hell to watch SMU play - except a game against the AG's. I hope it's a Corp trip. You may not like 'em. But all the marching, huttin' and hollerin' draws interest. And we need all the interest we can get.
Ah, yes...school's back in session at SMU, I see. Johnny Rock has crawled out from under his rock to impart his vaunted wisdom upon us. How was summer vacation, JR? Are you a sophomore, junior or senior this year, JR? Oh, yeah...are YOU gonna be at the game on Saturday

Who's going to bring the whistles? Back in the day, that was one of the funniest pranks we ever pulled. Aggie Band is playing their usual dirge like half-time show and start going into that big block "T" formation. Some Mustang learned that they only knew when to turn when somebody blew a whistle. They got into the middle of the formation and SMU fans started blowing whistles intermittantly. Whole sections of the Aggie Band went off in the wrong direction. When the music ended their "T" looked more like the UT Longhorn. I guess they still don't know how to spell the letter "T" at A&M. The next year our student section was surrounded by unsmiling brownshirts with swords at Kyle Field. Too funny.
Re:Figures. Oh, waitaminute...you and Ponysnob will probably be with each other.
Re:
I was there in 74, and it was hilarious! As a plus we also got to see the Mustangs knock off the #4 ranked Aggies. Baylor also knocked off UT for the first time in 25 years or so that day.
