I must agree with MrM on this. What is the point of arguing with such posts. If you do not like it do not perpetuate the thread by responding.

BTW, what time and what channel does "Cheaters" come on? This program sounds fantastic.

My original post was really intended for people that come on this board and start bashing Coach Bennett, Copeland, SMU, BOD, Rich Alum, etc.....

The point is don't get all pissy when we get blown out. Time and time again I see people get on here after TCU and Ok St stomp us and want to place blame on someone.

Boise has a much better program than we do pure and simple. This is just a fact. I just want to manage expectations on this board. If we beat the SJSU's and Tulsa's of the world that is progress. We didn't win a damn game last year and we have one of the youngest teams in the country........

Because I am a realist doesn't mean I'm not a true SMU fan. If anything I am trying to help because I don't want some borderline fan to walk away b/c we have an embarrassing loss to a team we already knew was going to whip us.

You know its time to get on with the game when all the posters from the SAME TEAM start chewing on each other for no reason -

We're on a winning streak - lets play ball!!!

I like reading posts like his--they are exactly why I coined the term sunshiners--those who have expectations approaching grandeur week in and week out, but who never quite grasp the history of the team giving rise to the expectations. Those kinds of posts are funny to read, so I like them, and the posts where they later get all mad in defense of the sunshine posts are even funnier. Keep 'em coming sunshiners.

This guy for example, he expects again this week SMU will upset the 37-point favorites, just as he has for the last 17 games in which his mighty mustangs have gone 1-16. He can hope all he wants, but to EXPECT, that is just the blind homerism, aka sunshine, that gave this board its reputation. I for one have no expectations for a win from this SMU team, this week or any other week, and therefore I was pleasantly surprised with last week's victory.

MrMustang-
I say you take a piece of your own advice. If you don't like RA's post, don't read it. If you don't like Stallion's post, don't read it. Instead, you started the whole deal by having some remarks for RA's advice, which in my opinion was a positive post. Basically saying if we lose, and you've got say that is a possiblity considering we're 37 point dogs, don't freak out.

Or, you can be like most on this board are. Someone posts an opinion, stat, fact, question, etc. and others comment, agree, disagree, explain it. You disagreed with his statement. Great, that's your opinion, and someone might disagree with it, like, say....Stallion. But don't cry foul when he does, saying "just don't read my posts."

This is a board for discussion, not one big circle-jerk. Especially not when we're 1-16 over the last two seasons.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Why all the anger for a fan who is optimistic about our chances? For Gosh sakes! Cut him some slack! I just don't understand the attitude of some of you people. We are ALL FANS! Some are just mor eoptimistic than others. Chill out Stallion..ok?

Judge:

It's the sheer lack of any semblance of reality that gets to most people I think. The guy is a sunshiner, an exemplar one at that. Not everyone is as amused by the sunshiner as I am. But I would be curious to know why a guy with such a professed love of all things SMU decided to attend college elsewhere. Shouldn't he be passionately predicting wins on a Sam Houston State board somewhere also? Not that I want him to stop posting here, it's too much fun to read.

Realism is here nor there. I for one have been firmly seated on the Mustang bandwagon since watching the Holiday Bowl as a nine-year old pitting BYU vs SMU. Yes, fans should be practical. I'm afraid I'll always quietly hope for an SMU win, regardless of how practical or impractical a notion that may be. It's a family kind of thing. Noone trash talks your little brother (or in this case, head coach program etc.) but you...but when push comes to shove, the erstwhile 'Mustang Nation,' or some semblance thereof (to borrow a quote from another poster) should be there to step up.

Are up to a 37 point 'dog already?

Postby Sam I Am » Thu Sep 30, 2004 8:36 pm

The last I checked we were only 28 point underdogs. Apparently the odds have gotten worse at 37 points. Let the true believers take SMU with even odds if they want; but when money is involved, reality bites. For the record RA and Stallion are much more supportive of the team than most of us have been by blaming the adminstration more than the coaches or players for our losing record.

Bad vibes

Postby stangdad » Thu Sep 30, 2004 9:06 pm

I know some of you have issues but do you all know that alot of the players read what is printed here I do not think it is very condusive to them or the coaches that are trying give all of you something to brag about.

I don't know Mr. Mustang 1965 so I don't know what his situation was when he was just out of highschool, but the fact of the matter is that not everyone who would like to go to SMU can afford to do so. I know a kid right now who really wanted to go to SMU, but without substatial financial assistance he was not able to do so and as a result wound up going to Tech. So let your curiosity continue, but don't get too pompous about it.

Whatd I do?

I only read the first page so Ill only talk about that...I for one was expecting us to show up TCU..Anybody around here knows I was saying we would win that game...The only games I have said that I know that we're gonna lose is the Tech and the Oklahoma State game..we lost both...I havent said anything else. Boise State will be tough but I still think we got a shot.

One of the only guys on this board that I see every week predicting a win or atleast for us to come close to is MM65.

If we're talking about true fans then all I got to say was here before the win againist San Jose State. Most of us were here for the whole 15 game losing streak. Hell when I was in Austin for the Texas vs Tulane game (I know Im ashamed) I had to sneak around just and order online at my hotel so I could come on here and post to talk to you guys. I was watch some game on ESPN and following the SMU vs Nevada game the whole way through it. I didnt get to see the final score (got kicked out of there cause I was screaming so much lmfao) I was calling everywhere just to find out the final score sadly was disappointed to see one of the games we shouldve won end at 12-9 Nevada. But thats beside the point. The people that are still here posting and have been since hte start of the 15 game losing streak are the true fans here.

Side by Side we stand! (I sound like a total idiot in this post probably but oo well)

Go Mustangs! Beat Boise!
