I don't know a lot about the BU team. However, from what I've read, their running game is not overwhelming.
Baylor's running game hasn't been overwhelming in a long time. We did have a 1000 yard rusher in 2003 with Rashad Armstrong but not much else since Jerod Douglas graduated.
This season, it could get interesting. The Baylor coaches are saying that for the first time since they've been there, they have 10 quality OL.
If true, that could obviously have a significant impact on the running game, particularly if SMU is thin on the DL.
The BU RBs SMU is most likely to see are Jr. Paul Mosley 6'3" 230 and Redshirt Soph Brandon Whitaker 5'11" 198. Mosley had just under 500 yards rushing last season but averaged 4.6 ypc. Whitaker is more of a breakaway threat but is coming off a season where he was injured and received a medical redshirt. He looked very good in the Spring.
Backing them up is redshirt freshman Jacoby Jones and Mario Price, a transfer from Army.
My prediction: BU 34 SMU 20

No...I predicted us to lose to UTEP.
I did say I thought we would beat TCU and Rice..but lets not go back to that.
I didnt think we would beat Fresno State or Boise State (who did). Or Tech...
Sure I say I think we have a chance to win every game and I want us to win every game, but I sure dont predict every game as a SMU Victory

SMU should be able to give Baylor a good game at home in probably one of the biggest games in recent SMU history-(Thanks for stealing my line Alex-if that is your real name). If they don't then Bennett's program is headed for real trouble in recruiting and finding a way to keep momentum in the program. Its time for some tangible results-and late October may be too late.

OK...I predicted scores in Conference championships last year and missed by a combined total of only 13 points over 3 games, including both team's score (not point differential). So I missed each team's score by an average of 2 and 1/6 points.
Here's my SMU-Baylor prediction:
SMU 24
Baylor 20

Baylor has a very experienced secondary giving an edge to the Bears. Both defenses are pretty porous overall though which may make for a high scoring game unlike 2 years ago. Slight offensive edge goes to the Ponies along with the home field advantage. Chris McMurtray breaks a 34 - 34 tie by kicking a 43 yard field goal with 3 seconds left.

I admit this game is pretty important, but I shudder at the thought of calling this one of the biggest games in recent SMU history. SMU's record in such games is abysmal. About the only victory I can think of is the Kansas victory to open Ford.

This is a big game, but not the most important one this season. The opening conference game against Tulane is the most important one this season. We need to make a statement to our new conference foes. That said, I hope we beat Baylor, it would be a huge boost to recruiting and to morale. It will be tough. Baylor has some young talent and is able to recruit the Big XII. I think we might pull this one off, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. 24-21, SMU.

My prediction for the Baylor game is that if we do not win, chances of us beating TCU the next week will be pretty slim. Winning at A&M will be a daunting task, and if we are 0-3 going into the Tulane game I don’t like our chances there. Road games at Marshall and UAB will be tough even if we have had early success. That puts us at 0-5 going into the October 15th game at home against East Carolina.
That being said, the Baylor game IS the biggest game we have had in quite some time. If we lose on September 3 and the above scenario plays out we will be lucky to win 3 games for the season. Does Bennett stay another year with a three win season?
My prediction is that the above does not occur, and we pull out a win: SMU 24, Baylor 20.
Don’t forget to buy a program at the game, you can’t tell the Bears from the turf without a program.

i hope it doesn't happen, but that would be 0-6 going into October 15.

That's a doomsday scenario, and I hope it doesn't happen.
IMO we are 3-3 heading into the ECU game, with wins over BU, TCU, and Tulane (TCU looks to be down this year, so I will go with us especially at Ford). Then we beat ECU, beat Tulsa, and lose out to miss the 6 win mark again.

TCU looks to be down? You must not be a defensive coordinator trying to figure out how to stop Gunn, Hobbs, Merrill and that great WR who caught about 60 passes last year(Caribbean brainfart). I'd say TCU is absolutely loaded at the skill positions-with the caveat that several of those kids are injury prone.

Luckily, they play OU the week before they play us. I would not be at all surprised if the Sooners inflicted a few bumps and bruises on the Frogs.

But will they be able to block?

Prediction for the Baylor game: I predict there will be lots of hot chicks and cold beer on the Boulevard. I also predict I will attempt to partake in both, but will likely only be successful in partaking of the latter.

And TCU plays Utah to open up MWC conference play just five days later. This is the definition of a trap game.
