If ever there was something worthy of complaints, Major Sunshiner, its the on-field product. Why have you let this logo thing crawl so far up your @ss? Has it escaped your notice that your wannabe alma mater is 3 and twenty-something over the last two seasons? Tradition ought to be more about winning than which way your friggin logo is facing, for godsake.

So Mr. Mustang, I love reading your complaints because it reminds me that SMU does not have to claim you as an alumnus. The good Lord blessed SMU there.
MrMustang1965 is one of SMU's most loyal fans. SMU is fortunate to have his interest in Mustang teams. He has been a supportive fan during a dark era for SMU's "revenue sports". Family history and other reasons have made him a Mustang fan, something the Hilltop has a glaring shortage of. When 80k fans pack Kyle Field or Memorial Stadium (Austin) or Memorial Stadium (Norman) or huge numbers of posters participate in their message boards year-round do they make divisions between graduates and non-graduates? No, they are all part of the Aggie Nation or Sooner Nation or Longhorn Nation. Every true fan your team has makes the program more "blessed". SMU needs a Mustang Nation mentality. Unless you want a fire started inside Moody Coliseum there are no steps to burn something on...the ground is level from Airline to Moody's doors.
Go Mustangs!

Exactly jt which is why this whole secondary logo fiasco is so disturbing. Instead of focusing on what it takes to get winning teams on the field/court, the athletic department is wasting time and resources trying to create something that is not needed or wanted. It just blows my mind!

Time and resources? This is the product of a marketing consultant, not the athletic department's own time and resources. Now it had to be paid for, no doubt, probably with athletic funds--but unless you're a proponent of going back to the slush fund days, the money they spent on this is not going to make a difference on the wins and losses this year. Bottom line--The new logo is just not that big a deal.

Now you're just being argumentative. There were better uses for that money and time than either creating this thing in-house or paying a consultant to come up with something we do not need or want! The marketing department should be looking for creative ways to get butts in the stands, finding corporate sponsers, etc. and IMHO a secondary logo/mark isn't going to do that. Meanwhile, the AD and staff should be lobbing the Board of Trustees and Administration every day for improved recruiting conditions to allow the coaches to go after the type players everyone else goes after.

Goodness, people, I'm sure they're just trying to find a new audience to market to. So, you may not like, but some 12 year old down the street might. And he may buy a hat because he likes it, and then come watch the team because of.
Obviously, most of the people we market to are lifelong SMU fans. The idea is to get new ones, not rely on the same 4,378 fans that we have now. The old merchandise wasn't working, so they're trying something new. As long as the old stuff is still available, who really cares?
That said, the new logo looks like [deleted].

It's not that big a deal, PK. I'm sure they're trying to do all that other stuff too. If a change in logo is going to run somebody off, they were not that big a fan to begin with.

Who said anything about running somebody off?

Well, for starters, you sound as if you'e about to throw yourself off the nearest Central Expressway overpass. And for something that doesn't matter in the big picture, no less.

Only winning is going to increase demand for SMU merchandise...and we can only hope with this group that the "old stuff" remains available.

jt: I'll be here waving the red & blue for a long, long time. And please don't joke about suicide. That hits a little too close to home for some of us, OK? Thanks.
No...in the grand scheme of things, the new logo/running red Mustang really doesn't matter in 'the big picture'. I'm passionate about certain things in life for specific reasons and SMU is one of them. And I'm not just talking about SMU athletics...I'm talking about ALL things SMU. Yes, the sun will rise and set again tomorrow. And I'll still be here supporting SMU and the Mustangs.

There you go, now your calmed down. Just curious...when they changed the horse on the helmet in the late '60s or early '70s, whenever it was, did you throw this kind of hissy fit?

hmmmm....can't remember. I was a pre-teen and teenager during that time. I do remember watching Jerry LeVias, Chuck Hixson, Keith Bobo, Inez Perez, Mike Livingston, etc. in the Cotton Bowl and a lot of fantastic football games. And as for 'calming down'...well, you ain't seen nuthin' yet! Sept. 3 can't get here soon enough!
