Copeland's Record?

well I know that you're pretty young but let me assure you that from a historical perspective SMU even in an All-Sport Analysis has declined greatly since the DP and under Copeland. There was a time when SMU was Top 20 in every single Men's sport it played. So many of us are not so quick to give Copeland credit for a historical low point in SMU athletics. To me it appears to be a gradual erosion in most sports. This really isn't surprising. The eggheads at SMU did not properly value the importance of SWC membership and that has affected all other sports as well.

Also add in the fact that not being in BCS pinches our budget so that we have had to sacrifice mens sports to support Title IX scholarship requirements and women's sports. I will say though that our women's sports have improved under Copeland for what that's worth. Womens' BBall, Volleyball, swimming, tennis and track are improved. Golf has been static, but remember women's golf was not as competitive when we won a National title as it is now. Back then it took one good golfer, now it takes 5.

static?? in the last two years the team has gone from 154th to 26th in the country, made it to NCAA regionals, has produced numerous WAC first-team players, academic all-americans, players that represent SMU in the U.S Open, U.S Amateur, Pub-Links etc..... even though they have not won a conference championship since 1992 they have made it to post -season play, if i remember correctly there was team north of here that did not win their conference and played for a national championship in the Rose Bowl.... pretty static if you asked me

Again, congratulatios to women's golf, they are clearly head and shoulders above any other SMU athletic program in terms of success and, ahem, hot chicks (except perhaps some of the other programs and chicks which escape me now). But if that is the highlight of Copeland's tenure, then he's not doing his job right, understand?

nobody is saying that it is the highlight of anyones tenure, especially the coach who he hired, sorry Bus but it was his hire from what i hear, the origianal post asked what team if any, has flourished and i just casually mentioned one team that has, i thought no one cared about that sport.........

The women's golf team has made great progress under Coach Selders -- if the game was more conducive to spectators, I'd go watch (do they ever play locally? Is there a way to watch? I assume they don't hand out golf carts to fans....) The women's soccer team is in much better shape under Coach Cossaboon -- a Copeland hire. Women's basketball is better, and after a brief skid, the swimming and tennis teams once again are very strong. It's way too early to assess Coach Tubbs, but if the reports I've heard about Dez Willingham and Bamba Fall in pick-up games are accurate, the "Tubbs can't recruit" critics might have less to complain about than many think.

Didn't you hear we beat the crap out the Baylor Bears in 7 on 7. When Tony "Tip" Eckert doesn't have to worry about agile, hostile and mobile DLM rushing him I hear he's a real Heisman contender. But when the Lights came on the reality was 0-11.

The women's golf team won a National Title in the '70's that's what I meant by static. You can't top an NCAA title only repeat it.

it was an AIAW Title and not NCAA title, but nevertheless it was a National Championship. i think they are making strides towards that tournament. Remember that team a few years back that finished last in the Arizona tournament by 16 shots behind the next to last team.

Speaking of hot women and golf, I went to the President's Cup last weekend. Tiger Woods wife is sooo hot. Tiger walked up to the green people looked. Mrs. Woods walked up to the green, and every male eye immediately left Tiger. I mean priorities are priorities. And sorry guys, they wouldn't let camera phones on the golf course. I can see now why his back's been bothering him.
