You are missing my point.
I placed little significance in our victories last year against 3 lousy teams, just like I would not read too much this year in a victory over Rice.
TCU and UAB are different stories.
I think the point SWC was trying to make is that there is some imrovement over last year. A couple of quality wins and competitive in our losses. Not nearly the amount of improvement we wanted to see this year, but definitely some improvement.
I think the overall talent is better than it has been in awhile, but it will not make any difference as long as we continue to make the mental mistakes that we have made. Turnovers have taken us out of almost every game and that is not a matter of talent as much as it is a matter of concentration and protecting the ball at all times.

And losing is losing. And we are still losing, even if we are better. I'm sick of it.

A 2-3 win season is still a poor season and at most schools, having several of those, will get a coach fired. But at SMU, it gets the coach a contract extension!
The only thing our football program is successful in, is having losing seasons!!!! When will things change?

You make is sound so easy.
I would guess that the day you graduated SMU were were as smart as you are now. You won't even agree to that statement.
Bennett is building a better team. You HAVE to get better to get to being the best.
I do not like losing at all. I see some good wins from this year.
I want to see Phillips play this year so I know what to look forward to next year. Phillips of the SLC RedShirt.

What it boils down to is the fact that he's a horrible coach. The team has the talent, see TCU and UAB. And I'm not just mentioning the wins. In the UAB case, we won thanks to a lucky play. This is not a coaching decision.
Bennett may be a good recruiter, and may be "building" a better team, but his coaching ability is horrible, end of story.
Prove me wrong... Give me an example of an on the field decision that I can't counter with an example of a f-up.
WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!

Oh I agree we are better this year...no question
Don't know if we will be better next year and I doubt you do either given our uncertainty at QB at our expected decline in defense next year.
I just want to counter the inevitable sunshine that will occur when we defeat a terrible Rice team next week.
And one final point. I while I agree we are better this year, is that really saying much given the depths our program has been? A lot of you defenders of PB seem to wax over the fact that under his reign our program is 8-35, or #114 in D1-A. I expected more....a lot more.
So overall, is this program better under PB than Cavan? Won-Loss record says it isn't...

It's certainly not financially as we are paying PB a hell of a lot more than Cave-in was making!!!

IMHO, I saw Cavan having the advantage of coaching SWC Rossley recruits. He was OK but also gave away some games. So. Miss for one.
As the years went on and Cavan played his recruits... things went down - way down.
When PB got here SMU/we did not have a bunch of good players. Yes some but 7 guys over 270. Give me a break. I bet SOC, L.Highlands, Berkner SLC, Denton Ryan can rival that number of BIG MEN. I believe he is building the team the right way.
Play calling could be better and the QB situation - Oh Boy
The point about the QB is RIGHT ON brother. That is why I want to see Phillips in action NOW.
Maybe if we get up 14 to Rice - Or down 14.

How does the talent level look the next few years? I thought this was the year Bennett finally said he had good depth and better players and yet he will only get to possibly 3 wins. Just looking at the talent that has left already this year and those who will leave, there are much more questions in the future.
Is this as good as it gets for Bennett?

Actually, that was Ole Miss, not Southern Miss, but you are exactly right about that one.
Then again, the argument could be made that the Old Miss loss falls not on Coach Cavan, but on Dan Freiburger, who with about 7 minutes left (and the Ponies holding a big lead) announced "the rout is on!"
Oops.

Explain how a comment made by a radio commentator carries more weight than on a coach for snatching a defeat out of the jaws of victory. (I assume you are referring to DF making his comments on the radio.)

No HF, he will have lots more victories over your Horned Frogs and winning seasons. He beat you this year, and I guarantee he doesnt lose to you next year.
