To be fair...we all make decisions in our life at some point to change directions be it our jobs, careers or whatever. As it turned out for him it was a good decision...doubt he would have had as successful of a senior year here and hence a chance to be in the pros. I don't know what his problem was here, but he definitely was not making a positive impact at SMU.
As surely everyone knows at this point, our problems are much deeper than whether our QBs or any other players stick around 'til graduation. We need a real commitment from those who control this situation and an approach to athletics that lets us recruit and compete on Stallion's often mentioned level playing field. We have moaned and screamed about it on these boards until we are blue in the face...obviously we need to do something different, because all this is doing is getting the loyal fans mad at each other and has not significantly changed anything else. I don't know if a well reasoned and thought out plea/petition to the Board of Trustees would have an impact or not, but nothing else to this point has helped. Anyone articulate enough willing to get one going ![]()
This is ridiculous. I can now see why you post on chatrooms all day- you're too prideful in your ability to argue that you miss the point and go in circles. I never once said Josh didn't quit. He did quit. Did his teammates think he would be the starter the next year? No. Were they happy for him? Absolutely. If you think losing McCown was a heartbreaker for the team, you're nuts. He left because he never played well enough to warrant an opportunity to start. I'm not making excuses for him. He played woefully at times, and average on his best days. But in his mind he wanted to showcase what he did best, and it wasn't happening for him here. We wished him best of luck, watched him dominate a lower level, tear up the combine and laughably get drafted in the third round. At that point, it became Arizona's problem. But the fact remains, going into his fourth and final year of college football, the last shot before getting an NFL look, he wanted to dominate and showcase, not play musical chairs and have to compete for the starting job. That could be qualified as [deleted], but in hindsight he looks like a genius. Everything else is moot, that's why he left. I don't care what you think about the guy personally, I was responding to the original post about why he actually left. That is why he did. Yes he quit. I wasn't celebrating his career. Quit taking every opportunity to blast people from behind a computer when it is not necessary.
mccown, sanders and luker - all quitters
page quit - but he left under extenuating circs - won't hold it against him
This is the longest and most thought out insult I have ever seen on a thread. My hat is off to you, sir, regardless of my opinion on the subject. WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!
Stallion,
Only you could ridicule and/or degrade almost everyone (participating or mentioned) and almost everything (mentioned) in a thread. Is Ponyfans your only outlet for the possible layers upon layers of deep insecurity and anger in your life?
Cheesesteak you can't find your head from your [deleted]! You have been more wrong more times than just about anybody who ever posted on this board. And yes I just loved it when the Quitter threw that 58 yard Interception that was returned for a TD for the Cowboys almost as much as when McClown went 12 for 28 the week before. The only reason the guy is even on the field is because he couldn't beat out one of the worst starters in the NFL who then proceeded to get hurt. I sincerely hope he is waived by the end of the week and spends the rest of his career in the Arena Football League. But have fun cheering on the traitor because without him the school which you keep cheerleading for won't have a single player in the NFL. You are right though 16 years of ineptitude, no championships, no bowl games, 1 measly winning season in 16 years and then having to listen to cheerleaders like you tell me we are just about to turn the corner really PISSES me off!!! Every year as SMU heads to another pathetic year and you are humiliated by your preseason predictions, you and others try to make Stallion the issue-despite the fact I've nailed the direction of SMU athletics since Al Gore invented the internet. Guess what I don't care-take your best shot pal-I ain't running for President of the Mustang Club. But I will still be on here giving an honest evaluation of the direction of the program several years in advance. I'll put my record up against yours anytime you want.
You're still mean.
McCown's stats for today against the Dallas Cowboys: 16 completions in 33 attempts for 161 yds. longest pass: 44 yds. 1 TD 2 INTS Rushed for 16 yds. on 4 carries, averaging 4.0
Stallion,
A) What specifically are you saying that I have been wrong about? It is easy for you to make vague comments without substance. B) "have fun cheering on the traitor" - where/when did I cheer on McCown? McCown isn't on my mind - he is obviously on yours. My prior comments mostly concern your miniscule capacity to consider and respect other posters insights/opinions/questions/perspectives/commentary. C) "you are humiliated by your preseason predictions" Before and during the season - I did not make any predictions. Again, it is easy for you to make vague comments without substance.
