Forget about the offense; Rice's defense is statistically the worst in the country. Even if Rice scores four touchdows, they have allowed at least five in every game.

Stallion wrote:what a miserable day that was! Rainy and cold. That was the short debut of Hayden Fry's "Flying Wishbone" which was about 25 years ahead of its time but Fry was up to something. The Legendary OU backfield was QB Jack Mildren, HB Pruit, HB Joe Wylie and FB Leon Crosswhite. It ended 30-0 if I remember correctly.

Now you are really testing my memory but I think Hayden debuted the Flying Wishbone against New Mexico ( State?) in the Cotton Bowl. worked great on paper, but with no TE Gary Hammond was the middle of a DE sandwich when they just crashed down with no opposition. I may be wrong on the team but am pretty confident it debuted on a sad day in the Cotton Bowl and was soon ditched.

Not to be a party pooper or anything, BUT...we could easily be 0-8 right now just like Rice. We were supposed to have been BLOWN OUT by both TCU and UAB. I consider this a game pitting two evenly matched football teams who are both not very good against one another. Could it be that maybe that's why it was deemed PILLOWFIGHT OF THE WEEK by ESPN?

I still remember to this day as I watched the cool rain pour down that the OU radio announcer said "This is the first rainy day in 60 some odd years for an OU opener"-so I think the "Flying Wishbone" started at OU.

I do not agrue with it being the opener, I just do not think it was put in the game plan until the next week or two. Again, your recollections prove to be much better than mine so there is no argument here.

speaking of cold, rainy, miserable days...I seem to recall a Homecoming game against Rice in the Cotton Bowl where Josh McCown had a career day and Luke Johnson blocked a punt and SMU romped to a big win. That's the kind of thing I'm looking for tomorrow...without the cold and rain. We had about 16,000 out that day, mostly huddled under the upper decks on either side to the Cotton Bowl. Hope we can draw at least that for Homecoming. Sorry I'm not making this one, but at least I can watch on CSTV's all-access.

It is imperative that our lb's and db's break down, wrap up, and tackle well Saturday. That is something they have not done well, with any consistency this season. Playing with some fire, and intensity wouldn't hurt either. Go Mustangs!
