mr. pony wrote:"Amen" to Diehard. I never said don't cover the Big 12. But SMU's games, especially home games, deserve a spot on the front page of sports in this city's 'newspaper of record'. This is DALLAS, and it's a DIVISION IA game in DALLAS. As for dropping it, I'll drop it when it gets corrected. Maybe if more SMU fans let them hear about it, instead if taking like whimpering weasals, it might get changed.
um, are sunset high school's results on the front page of the sports section? it's more in dallas than SMU is. don't like it? start your own newspaper. i love to read about SMU, but the DMN is in the business of making money. you live by capitalism, you die (or suffer in your case) by capitalism.

They've always been about making money.
They were on the front page before the break up even when they sucked.
There has been a conscious decision by the DMN since 1995 to dump SMU to second tier.

thanks for making my point for me.
i live in NY. i don't think most readers of the NY times sports page want to read about the columbia lions or rutgers scarlet knights on the front page of the sunday sports page unless columbia is winning the ivy league or rutgers wins the big east. neither is, so guess where the are? stuck back with the other schools. notre dame was on the front page of the sports page today because THAT'S WHAT MOST READERS WANT. (again, capitalism 101. we teach it in the B school at SMU in case you want to take a night course.)
NEWS FLASH NUMBER TWO: dallas is a major metropolitan city appealing to a lot of readers. maybe the huntsville bee puts the bearkats or whatever they're called on the front page of its four-pager cage liner, but get real here.
conspiracy theory? geez. do you two stockpile guns, too?

Nobody said anthing about a conspiracy.
Just poor local sports news coverage, by a newspaper with no competion.

I think perhaps we make too big of an issue of SMU's coverage, especially what it is of late. In today's Sports section, while I knew SMU would be in the middle somewhere, I thought it was nice and "hometown team like" that at the top it didn't say "local colleges" or "other," but rather had a running Mustang on the top of the front page mentioning the p.6 story.
Why do I think the coverage isn't that bad? Anyone see the NW'ern game on Saturday? They were down 27-14 with two minutes left. Came back and won it. They're 2nd place in the Big Ten(11) and bowl eligible. Out of curiousity, I picked up the Chicago Tribune sports section-NW'ern's hometown rag- to see where their story was. Front page picture of the NW'ern game, with the caption telling about the win and saying, "see story, p.9" The front-page stories were dedicated to the Notre Dame game.

Waitaminute, Hoofbeat. I understand what the DMN is up to and its reasons. But I don't have to like it, right?
FYI: the Huntsville Item has come under sharp criticism for its lack of coverage of the Sam Houston State Bearkats this season, too. Of course, the 'Kats aren't faring much better than the Mustangs, either.

SMU fans don't care-why should the DMN care. [deleted] about the DMN will not change a damn thing. Building an athletic program will. You got it back-ass backwards.

I disagree, Stallion.
If SMU were to win the Conference USA championship and be ranked No. 10 in the country, the DMN and Dale Hansen would come sniffin' around looking for dirt.
That's the mind set in the Dallas media. Little schools cheat, big schools don't. (They ignore the fact that Arkansas and Alabama have recently been caught big time.)

yawn.
OK, we can go back to discussing who was a worse coach: cavan or rossley. this subject has run its course.

Well, obviously Cavan was much worse than Rossley. Rossley should never have been fired. yawn.

I think Mr. Pony has a point. Who was the guy who went riding around Valley Ranch w/ Michael Irvin & got him talking about cola?
